Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #21 (Songs were from 1955 through 1969) _____________________________________________________________________________ I believed the sweet things That you said, You lied to me and instead You broke my heart #01) Aquatones, The You (1958) [21] There is a song by Steve Alaimo, "Every Day I Have To Cry", that must have similar lyrics. I had two or three guesses for that song. It's six foot, Seven foot, Eight foot, Bunch! #02) Belafonte, Harry Banana Boat(Day-O) (1957) [5] New Wave Dave said Stan Freeberg also covered this song. Well, Sherlock Holmes, Sam Spade, got nothin' Chile, on me. Sgt. Friday, Charlie Chan And Boston Blackie #03) Coasters, The Searchin' (1957) [3] Although you're older than me It makes no difference, you see "Cause you are my shining star #04) Crescendos, The Oh Julie (1958) [5] This song was harder than I thought with Team Barry and Rick and Kathy getting it correct. Lord, we don't need Another mountain There are mountains And hillsides Enough to climb #05) DeShannon, Jackie What The World Needs Now Is Love (1965) [7] I deducted 2 points for not putting in the words "Is Love". Those words are part of the song tittle. Put your lips on mine While the music blends We're no more strangers When the music ends #06) Drifters, The, w/Ben E. King Dance With Me (1959) [15] His clothes are dirty But his, his hands are clean And you're the best thing That he's ever seen #07) Dylan, Bob Lay Lady Lay (1969) [7] I'm in heaven, I get carried away, I dream of him and me And how it's gonna be #08) Fabares, Shelley Johnny Angel (1962) [1] Her aunt is Nannette Fabray. Shelley played Mary Stone on the Donna Reed Show so notes Rick Schubert. I got some change in My pocket and I'm Rarin' to go Takin' some chick To the picture show #09) Fabian (Forte) Turn Me Loose (1959) [9] Squeeze and kiss me All through the night, Oh Baby, #10) Freeman, Bobby Do You Want To Dance (1958) [5] And I surprised her With a puppy Kept me up all Christmas Eve Two years ago #11) Goldsboro, Bobby Honey (1968) [1] This was one of the 2 most answered songs on the quiz. Promise me we'll never part We have a love That's sure to be True love for All eternity #12) Holden, Ron Love You So (1960) [7] This was one of the hardest songs on the quiz with only Barrys' & Jamies' teams getting it right. There was green alligators And long necked geese, Some humpty backed camels And some chimpanzees #13) Irish Rovers, The The Unicorn (1968) [7] Howard T. said he was waiting for me to include something Irish and this was it. I have plenty of Irish songs, but none from the top 100. Barry noted that Shel Silverstein wrote this song and also "A Boy Named Sue". I thought that our Romance was over and done But to her it had Just begun #14) Jay And The Americans She Cried (1962) [5] Jay Traynor was the "Jay" for this song. The songs after this were sung by David Blatt, a.k.a. "Jay Black" Her name was Sylvia His name was Earl, His love was Lorraine, She's a wonderful girl #15) Jive Five, The My True Story (1961) [3] Team Barry told me the correct lyrics in the first line should be, "Her name was Sue, yeah". I had a hard time trying to figure it out, so I settled on Sylvia. I don't think the name being wrong had any impact on the answer. If any one disagrees, please write me and we will come up with a solution. You are an angel, An angel divine You're sent from heaven You're really mine #16) Knockouts, The Darling Lorraine (1959) [46] This song wasn't that big of a hit, but a lot a people seem to know it so I used it on the quiz. I'm mad about you Almost insane, Crazy 'bout you, baby Love to call your name #17) Little Joe & The Thrillers Peanuts (1957) [22] When I see the seven It reminds me that On the seventh day God rested from His Great Works #18) Martindale, Wink Deck Of Cards (1959) [7] I seem to remember when this song was first released he went under the name Win Martindale because he was just starting out as a game show host and he didn't want to hurt his image. If any one has any information confirm- ing this please let me know. I'll bet she's out Havin' a ball Not even thinkin' Of me at all #19) Nelson, Ricky Stood Up (1957) [2] You even asked me To wear your ring Than you ran around With any girl in town #20) Patience & Prudence Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now (1956) [11] Another hard one with only team Jamie, Rick & Kathy, Dan Murphy, and The Protein Men getting it correct. Way to go guys. Now I know That life without you Has been too lonely Too long #21) Presley, Elvis One Night (1959) [4] Put silver wings On my son's chest Make him one Of Americas best #22) Sadler, Ssgt Barry The Ballad Of The Green Berets (1966) [1] I deducted 2 points for forgetting S or Staff on his name. He takes me deep sea Fishin' in a submarine We go to drive-in movies In a limousine #23) Stevens, Dodie Pink Shoe Laces (1959) [3] And if I kiss you In the garden, In the moonlight, Will you pardon me #24) Tiny Tim Tip-Toe Thru' The Tulips With Me (1968) [17] Just to see how many of you remembered him. I guess he's remembered most for marrying "Miss Vicky" on The Tonite Show. He couldn't sing then and I still don't think he can sing. I see the way Men look at you When you think I don't see #25) Union Gap, The Woman, Woman Featuring Gary Puckett (1967) [4] This song caused some contraversy. Any one who has the record knows it reads The Union Gap featuring Gary Puckett. Because it reads like this it comes after Ssgt Barry Sadler and not before it. This was not done to mislead anyone, so I apoligize if it did. ################################################################## As you all know this is my last quiz for now. I hand it over to Rick Schubert for the next couple of quizzes. I hope you all support him as you did me. Good Luck to all of you in the current quiz. It has been a lot of fun doing these and I look foward to doing them again. -- IRISH "'TIS A BLESSING TO BE IRISH!" hanrahac@ocpt.ccur.com
