Many entrants recognized the song "Over And Over," but it didn't rank higher because (in the context of THIS quiz) the artist was incorrect. On the other hand, many entrants recognized Rick Nelson as the artist, but didn't recognize "Teen Age Idol"--if we we're just looking at SONG, it would've scored lower. Of course, we could do a calculation based on just song identification, but I'd rather leave it this way (based on total points) & identify it as "song/artist." With that in mind here's what surprised me re the recognition: I expected more people to get Teen Age Idol, Can't You Hear My Heartbeat & I'll Be Satisfied. I expected more folks to get I Can Hear Music by knowing the Beach Boys version. I also expected Barbara-Ann to do a bit better & even though it hit #1, I expected Heartaches By The Number not to have done as well. Actually, I take it back re Barbara-Ann--it, like "Over And Over," didn't rank higher due to an incorrect artist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From WCBS-FM NY/NJ/CT listener-voted surveys of the top 500 songs of all time: Song 1991 1982 1979 1972 ------------------------------- ---- ---- ---- ---- Along Came Jones #492 Wonderful World #282 I'm Walkin' #91 #489 Like A Rolling Stone #166 #178 Stand By Me #59 Release Me #338* Barbara-Ann #396 #180** #119 Paint It, Black #480 What Does It Take (To Win Your Love) #475 Never #61 * Engelbert Humperdinck's version ** Beach Boys' version ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From WCBS-FM NY/NJ/CT listener-voted 1992 survey of the top 101 artists of all time: #18 Jackie Wilson #26 Fats Domino #47 Sam Cooke #19 Temptations #28 Rolling Stones #49 Ronettes #20 Earls #38 Everly Bros. #68 Ben E.
