RESULTS and ANSWER KEY for GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #153 The team of BARRY SILK, JENNY McCAW, SCOOTER MAGRUDER AND JOE HAERTEL edged out MICHAEL GESSNER, DINO DINARDO AND JOEL LIPMAN to win GOLQ 153. Third place was shared by IN-A-PRODG-Y-VIDA (DAVID SCHRAGER,GABRIELLA ZIEGLER) and JAMIE LUBIN. DELPHI TRIVIA CLUB and L'EQUIPE also had excellent scores to tie for fifth, just ahead of the GYPSY'S CARAVAN. The FORGOTTEN ONES were the only team to identify T1, the least known song in the quiz. Three songs were identified by all entrants. The average score was 333, which is actually higher than most of my previous quizzes. The lowest score was 100, which is the highest low score since GOLQ 135. Barry Silk has already posted GOLQ 154. Thanks to all for entering. -- Rich Ardini _____________________________________________________________________________ After each score below are two characters representing the two tie-breakers: A "+" indicates a tie-breaker answered correctly; a "-" indicates partial credit; an "x" indicates a totally incorrect guess; a "." indicates no guess. This was Pat's 49th charted single and his last number one hit. Only the novelty song "Speedy Gonzales" made the Top 10 for him after this song.] To have won is how they get their kicks But not me, because I know their tricks Well they're wrong to think I Will be caught by the wink of an eye #04) Jan Bradley: "Mama Didn't Lie" (1963) [14] {8} [Several: written by Curtis Mayfield] The carousel has stopped us here It twirled a time or two and then it dropped us here And still you're not content with something about me But what merry-go-round can you ride without me #05) Glen Campbell: "Where's The Playground Susie" (1969) [26] {-} [Glen was on a roll in 1969. Bobby's first single,"Molly", was also a tragedy song. Terry's dramatic readings in this song would do William "Transformed Man" Shatner proud. In a recent interview in Discoveries magazine, Terry, who was signed to Apple Records for a short time, claims to have been in the Apple building the night the Beatles broke up and to have been offered Graham Nash's spot in the Hollies, when Graham left. Most people remember him as the producer of Grand Funk Railroad, which contained two former members of the Pack.] I know that you know the feeling That getting something for nothing is wrong Getting love is so easy, giving love takes so long It started off just sticking around With that wonderful feeling from you #14) Lovin' Spoonful: "Full Measure" (1967) [87] {-} [The flip to Nashville Cats, this also received air play in several cities. This song was chosen as much for the album it appeared on, "Odessey & Oracle". The album was recorded when the Zombies knew they were breaking up. They wanted to put out a very personal final album, and not worry about the marketplace. The album almost didn't come out at all in the U.S., and it was Al Kooper who helped convince CBS to release it. It did spawn the Zombies biggest hit, "Time of the Season".] ----------------------- This chart ranks the songs from most recognized to the least recognized. The third number on the line denotes the average number of points scored on that song (total points divided by the number of entrants, to 1 decimal place).
