Many teams came close, including DELPHI TRIVIA CLUB and MIKE GESSNER, JOEL LIPMAN, DAN DINARDO who eached missed by one tie-breaker. JAMIE LUBIN and the team of ANTONIO TORRALBA, DOMINIC BEGG, BEN ROWDON, TUNDE tied for fourth and BARRY SILK, JENNY McCAW, SCOOTER MACGRUDER and JOE HAERTEL finished sixth. Perhaps due to it being a theme ("things in the sky above you") quiz, the average score was 385. GOLQ171 has already been posted. Thanks to all who entered. Other eyes see the stars up in the skies But for me they shine within your eyes #02) Cilia Black: "You're My World" (1964)[26]{-} Now if you look up in the sky YouŽll understand the reason why The little stars at night are all aglow He turns them on when night is here #03) The Browns featuring Jim Edward Brown: "The Old Lamplighter" (1960)[5]{-} The other side ("Teen-Ex") also charted. You'll never, never, never reach the sky He smiles at the young soldiers Tells them it's all right He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight Soon there'll be blood and many will die Mothers and fathers back home they will cry #04) Eric Burdon & The Animals: "Sky Pilot (Part One)" (1968)[14]{-} I might get burned up by the sun But I'll have my fun I've been loved and put aside I've been crushed by a tumbling tide And my soul's been psychedelicized #05) Chambers Brothers: "Time Has Come Today" (1968)[11]{-} Hand in hand as we stand 'neath the old campus moon Make believe that tomorrow is here Picture me close to you in a dream house for two Where the ivy grows greener each year #06) Perry Como: "Ivy Rose" (1957)[18]{-} Well I feel like a man in outer space I'm acting like a psycho case Hey girl, stop this feeling Look at me, you got me rockin' and a-reelin' #07) Joey Dee & The Starliters: "What Kind Of Love Is This" (1962)[18]{-} Joe Pesci was a member of the Starliters. Tonight mister moon, shines his light Tonight be mine, let me hold you tight Tonight your lips, glisten so bright I think you're gonna be my girl #08) Ronnie Dove: "Say You" (1964)[40]{-} The first charted single for Ronnie, who made his first quiz appearance since GOLQ 69. I guess you're lonely now Love's comin' to an end But, darling, only now Are you free to start again Lift up your pretty chin Don't let those tears begin #09) Flying Machine: "Smile A Little Smile For Me" (1969)[5]{-} Come to me tonight Come to me tonight I've taken everything in sight Except for the strings on my kite #10) John Fred & His Playboy Band: "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)" (1967)[1]{-} Like a toy balloon that's filled With as much air as it can take One more cup of air And that balloon has got to break #11) Marvin Gaye: "One More Heartache" (1966)[29]{4} Rhythm and blues was their name Oh, rhythm and blues was their name Well, they romp and stomp and rock 'n' roll You can't stop them to save your soul Rhythm and blues was their name #12) Bill Haley and His Comets: "Two Hound Dogs" (1955)[15]{-} This song has a problem I wasn't aware of when the quiz started. It is one of the few songs in Whitburn that doesn't have a peak chart number associated with it, even though in the 1986 and 1996 Whitburn editions, it is listed as if it had charted. I believe this is why a few teams missed it. Seventeen, I fell in love with a girl as sweet as could be It only took a couple of days 'til she was rid of me She swore that she would be all mine and love me 'til the end But when I whispered in her ear, I lost another friend #13) Led Zeppelin: "Good Times Bad Times" (1969)[80]{-} You drive me crazy, baby, with your magic touch You make me feel so good when the moon is shinin' bright With our lips together and you're squeezin' me so tight #14) Ricky Nelson: "Just A Little Too Much" (1959)[9]{-} Way down, way down along the stream How very, very sweet it will seem Once more just to dream In the silvery moonlight #15) Patience & Prudence: "Tonight You Belong To Me" (1956)[4]{-} We're in love and above there's a crazy gold balloon That sits winkin' down And invitin' us to come on in #16) Tony Perkins: "Moon-Light Swim" (1957)[24]{-} Several teams had Elvis Presley as the artist. Hi diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle The cow jumped over the moon And on the way down she met a turtle dove #17) Johnny Preston: "Cradle Of Love" (1960)[7]{-} A thousand stars in the sky Were shining up above I'll never forget the night that we met How we stood there pledging our love #18) Tina Robin: "Dear Mr. D.J. Play It Again" (1961)[95]{-} Jeff Barry wrote this semi-novelty tune that had Tina quoting famous lines from other hit songs of the time. I wanna see the sun Blotted out from the sky #19) Rolling Stones: "Paint It Black" (1966)[1]{-} First star I see tonight Can't you hear my plea to you Won't you make my dreams come true #20) Linda Scott: "Starlight, Starbright" (1961)[44]{-} Linda was added to the quiz because she might hold the unofficial record for most songs recorded with the word 'Star' in the title. Ice cream, daydream 'Til the sky becomes a blanket of stars What a day for pickin' daisies And lots of red balloons #21) Spanky And Our Gang: "Lazy Day" (1967)[14]{-} Life is too short to worry about unimportant things (Unimportant things) Reach for the sky and touch your star And then youŽll find your dream (find your dream) #22) Tams: "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" (1968)[61]{26} A beach music classic. We have got to get it together now #23) Thunderclap Newman: "Something In The Air" (1969)[37]{-} Featured in several soundtracks around that time. Birds high up in the trees Serenade the clouds with their melodies #24) Toys: "A Lover's Concerto" (1965)[2]{4} When you're feeling tired and lonely You see people going home You can't make the train fare Or the six-pence for the phone And icicles you're crying down your cheek have just begun Don't be sad, good times are had #25) Traffic featuring Stevie Winwood: "Paper Sun" (1967)[94]{-} ----------------------- T I E - B R E A K E R S ----------------------- The knights they toast the tournament The falcons they fly above But the queen will a-drink of the dew tonight But the jester, she cries alone Because Merlin spoke of an instant spell To make the devil's white knights moan And-a all in all, the seagull said As I look to where I've been, "The whole wide human race Has a-taken far too much Methedrine" #T1) Donovan: "The Trip" (1966)[-]{-} The flip side to "Sunshine Superman". Apparently, the last two lines also appear in a Canned Heat song called Amphetamine Annie. Mrs. Applebee pulled down the shade And retired to her cozy bed Peter Dennings crossed the street, Turned his back and just a-shook his head Officer Warner, 'round the corner, Sipping coffee and a-making time He never heard the sounds of violence Emanating from the crime #T2) Jet Stream: "All's Quiet On West 23rd" (1967) [101]{-} This song was somewhat based on a well-publicized incident in New York a few years earlier involving one Kitty Genovese. Kitty was stabbed by a stalker outside her residence at 3 AM when returning home from work. Her screams were heard by several dozen neighbors, who turned on their lights and looked out their windows, which scared off the attacker. He would return twice more in the next half-hour to complete the assault and even though Kitty's cries for help were heard again, no one called the police for an hour. Kitty would die from the attack and the incident came to symbolize a darker, apathetic side of the American public. ============================================================================== This chart ranks the songs/artists from most recognized to least recognized.
