RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #242 (GOLQ242)
CONGRATULATIONS to EJ's and Company, who took top honors this month by
being the only team to score a perfect 500, identify both tie breakers,
AND identify the theme that all titles begin with the letter "T". The
Village Idiots and the team of Randy & Peter both had perfect scores,
but neither team mentioned the theme, and the VI had a minor error on
#T2, so they placed second and third place, respectively. The Coasters
identified all 25 songs plus the theme, but only had a partial answer
for one of the tie breakers, putting them in fourth, just barely edging
ahead of Ron Anderson, Really Rockin' In Boston, and several others
with near-perfect scores. In spite of early feedback that our quiz was
"harder than usual," overall the scores were very high, perhaps due to
the clue provided by the theme. Only songs #01 and #09 provided any
difficulty at all, and even then over half the entrants identified
those songs.
Thanks to everyone who entered. We especially appreciate those who,
though not of the GOLQ '55-'69 generation, still participate and do as
well as they do! Don't be discouraged and keep playing!
GOLQ243 has already been posted.

I fuss with my woman
And I toil with my kids
I sweat 'til I'm
Wrinkled and gray
#03) Charles, Ray: "That Lucky Old Sun" (1963/64) [20] {n/c}
Those days of pretzels and soda and beer
#04) Cole, Nat "King": "Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days Of Summer" (1963) [6] {11}
But to give to you and to give to me
Love forever true

I know five hun'rd don't sound like much (cheap)
But just try to find somebody to touch
#14) Kingston Trio, The: "The Tijuana Jail" (1959) [12] {-}
They always will haunt me although we're apart
#15) Little Caesar & The Romans: "Those Oldies But Goodies (Remind Me Of You)"
(1961) [9] {28}
Note from Tom: I always liked this song, but hated Little Caesar's
version, especially with his use of "reminds" instead of "remind." The
hit version in Hartford was by Nino & the Ebb-tides, whose version I liked.
I never realized at the time, and was surprised to find out recently, that
Nino's version never made the Billboard charts. They must have been a
local group.
I need you, oh my darling
Like roses need rain
#16) Mathis, Johnny: "The Twelfth Of Never" (1957) [9] {-}
If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small
Say it's me that you'll adore
Now and forevermore
#17) Nelson, Rick: "That's All" (1963) [48] {-}
Just you know why,
Why you and I
Will by and by know
#18) Peter And Gordon: "True Love Ways" (1965) [14] {-}
Sunset I laugh, sunrise I cry
Midnight I'm in-between, and wondering why
#19) Pozo-Seco Singers, The: "Time" (1966) [47] {-}
You know I'll be your slave
If you ask me to
But if you don't behave
I'll walk right out on you
#20) Presley, Elvis: "Treat Me Nice" (1957) [18] {7}
Note from Tom: Although the back-up vocals on this song sound like the
Jordanaires, I could not confirm their presence in the title per my copy of
Whitburn, so I gave full credit to any team, regardless of their mentioning
the Jordanaires, that identified Elvis as the artist.
I want you back again
I want your love again
I know you find it hard to reason with me
#21) Rolling Stones, The: "Tell Me (You're Coming Back)" (1964) [24] {n/c}
I know that I know my own heart
But you say I'm trying to rush

Blown by wind, kissed by the snow
All that's left is the dark below
#24) Wayne, Thomas, with The DeLons: "Tragedy" (1959) [5] {20}
You know he treats me bad, makes me sad
Makes me cry but I can't deny
That I still love him
#25) Wells, Mary: "Two Lovers" (1962/63) [7] {1}
------------
Tie-Breakers
------------
There's one for you
Nineteen for me
#T1) Beatles, The: "Taxman" (1966) [-] {-}
Note: From The Revolver Album
And still on a winter's night, they say, when the wind is in the trees
When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor
#T2) Ochs, Phil: "The Highwayman" (1965) [-] {-}
Note from Tom: This song is on the album I AINT MARCHING ANYMORE. Phil
was an acerbic liberal protest song writer who was also capable of writing
beautiful love songs, such as this haunting and tragic rendition of Alfred
Noyes poem, which Phil set to music. The Highwayman has always been a
favorite of mine and I think one of his best.

number on the line denotes the average number of points scored on that song
(total points divided by number of entrants, to 1 decimal place). For
