RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #246 (GOLQ246)

Congratulations to the team of Randy Price & Peter Morley who claim
first place by correctly identifying all twenty-seven songs. Really
Rockin' In Boston also had a perfect score, missing only a tie-breaker.
The Coasters missed only one song. The Village Idiots came in fourth.
Will McCorry edged out Jean O'Shea for high score among individual
entrants. Iris S. and Ron Crandall each noticed there were several
songs from movies, nursery rhymes or stories, although I didn't
set out to do so.

The median score was 439. The mean was 402.

Thanks to everyone who entered.

Howard Teitelbaum has posted GOLQ247.

[-] = did not make pop chart
{-}   = did not make R&B chart
{F}   = made R&B chart as a flip side

=============================================================================

#01) Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass: "Mame" (1966/67) [19] {-}

     Louis Armstrong also fits.

And now these days are gone
I'm not so self assured (and now I find)
Now I find
#02) The Beatles: "Help!" (1965) [1] {-}

     Howard wondered if it might not be The Rutles singing "Ouch".

#03) Booker T. & The M.G.'S: "Hang 'Em High" (1968/69) [9] {35}

#04) Freddy Cannon: "Happy Shades Of Blue" (1960) [83] {-}

     Whitburn lists it as Freddie Cannon, but my 45
     (Swan 4057) says Freddy Cannon.

Tell your Mama, tell your Pa
I'm gonna send you back to Arkansas
#05) Ray Charles And His Orchestra: "What'd I Say (part 1)" (1959) [6] {1}

     One point deduction for omitting "part 1".

My heart knew it was gonna end in love

(you chicken)
That I can't let you stay a minute more

Why you wanna make me cry
Come here, and stop this

     about the pigheaded dog and the beloved Red Baron.". Iris says a
     Canadian version was released as "Squeaky Vs. The Black Knight".

And spend my lifetime with you
#T1) Iron Butterfly: "Most Anything You Want" (1968) (-) {-}

     From the LP IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA. This was the first album to ever receive
     a platinum award. I bought my copy at Two Guys, for those of you on the
     east coast of the U.S. who might remember it.

And there's one of Moses, with the Ten Commandments
Comin' for to carry you home
And I can check your credit by phone
Good day Mrs. Johnson
