RESULTS and ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #282 (GOLQ282)

Congratulations to all you good sports who played our "clowns" and "fools"
quiz, which proved to be a bit more challenging than we initially intended.
Here's why.

Initially, we wanted all 27 songs to be related to the one "clown" theme, and
we envisioned a moderately easy quiz. However, many of the more classic songs
we planned to use, such as "Cathy's Clown," and "Everybody Loves A Clown,"
turned out to be ineligible, so we had to scrape the barrel for enough tunes.
When it came time to publish, we only had 21 clown songs. More eligible ones
probably exist, but in an effort to get the quiz out on time, we had to stop
looking. Instead, we expanded the theme to include "fool(s)" and were easily
able to come up with the remaining additional songs. We could have eliminated
a couple of the "clown" stumpers and added more easier "fool" songs, but time
was of the essence so we kept the "clown" stumpers in.

Nonetheless, we couldn't "fool" many of you, because five teams still turned
n perfect scores. Congratulations to Gypsy's Caravan; Village Idiots; Delphi
Trivia Club; Die, Monster, Die; and, the EJ's for their perfect entries, and
to Will McCorry who missed only a tiebreaker.

Tom note: A high number of songs--eight--were easily identifiable by everyone.
I was surprised that several relatively low charting and obscure songs, i.e.,
#02, #09, #21, and #25 were more easily, or as easily, identified than Dylan's
"Mr. Tambourine Man." Though Dylan did not chart his version, and the Byrds
charted version did not include the quiz verse, the song is pretty well
regarded as a classic. I was equally surprised that more people identified
"You're Just About To Lose Your Clown" (peaked at 91) and "Holiday For Clowns"
(peaked at 94) than than identified Elvis' "Now and Then There's) A Fool Such
as I," which peaked at #2 and was on the charts for 15 weeks.
