RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #297 (GOLQ297)

Four teams tied for first this time, in order of receipt: The Coasters,
Mick Tursky, Mike Weaver and The GYPSY's CARAVAN. Five teams just missed
by a tie-breaker: The GenaTeam, Will McCorry, Delphi Trivia Club, Lehigh
Valley Trivia guys, and Vito & The Salutations. I thought I had picked
enough obscure songs that I made one of the tie-breakers a gift of sorts,
but most teams were up to the task.

Two songs were difference makers: #13 got regular airplay in the Boston
area, about the same time Love Is Blue was on the charts. Apparently,
that not was the case everywhere else. #T1 did its job as a tie-breaker.

The median score was 500, the mean 460. GOLQ298 will be posted shortly.

  QM: Jerry Ragovoy was an eclectic songwriter who also wrote
      Time Is On My Side (as Norman Meade), Pata Pata, A Wonderful Dream,
      Good Lovin', Cry Baby by Garnet Mimms, and Get It While
      You Can by Janis Joplin.
      The song was also done in similar fashion by Terry Reid.
      Terry reportedly turned down Led Zeppelin and the job
      went to Robert Plant.

  GC: Arguably the first feminist hit, according to one GC team member.

  QM: Some recordings reverse it as "Soul Coaxing (Ame Caline)".

#14) Little Peggy March: "(I'm Watching) Every Little Move You Make"
                                                             (1964) [84] {-}

#17) Paul & Paula: "Hey Paula" (1962) [1] {1}

#18) Poni-Tails: "Born Too Late" (1958) [7] {11}

  GC: The group hit #109 as the Ardells with "Eefananny".

#21) Freddie Scott: "Are You Lonely For Me" (1966) [39] {1}

#22) Simon & Garfunkel: "The Sounds Of Silence" (1965) [1] {-}
  DT: Was originally called "The Sounds of Silence" and was titled that way on
      the early albums and on the first single release; only on later compila-
      tions was it retitled to "The Sound of Silence". Both singular and plural
      are in the lyrics. In his book Lyrics 1964-2008, Simon has the title in
      the singular.

#23) Connie Stevens: "Sixteen Reasons" (1960) [3] {10}

#24) Unit Four Plus Two: "You've Never Been In Love Like This Before"
                                                             (1965) [95] {-}
  CO: They were originally a quartet named Unit Four. When they added 2
      members, they changed their name accordingly. I (Rick Schubert) think
      some NCAA conferences should follow the same convention.
  GT: The drummer from this group, going back to 1965 - Hugh Halliday, lives
      in Australia these days, and spends his time producing and/or directing
      musical shows. Sometimes, he appears on musical quiz shows and reminisces
      about the way things were at the time of the British Invasion.

#T1) Jonathan King: "Round, Round" (1967) [122] {-}
  QM: An anti-drug song that didn't make it out of the Bubble Under chart,
      keeping him a one-hit wonder in the U.S.
      Jonathan also produced "It's Good News Week" by Hedgehoppers Anonymous,
      gave Blue Swede its oogachuga chorus for Hooked On A Feeling, and had
      hit singles under a variety of names in England.

#T2) Peter, Paul & Mary: "The Great Mandella (The Wheel Of Life)" (1969) [-] {-}
  MW: Flip side of "I Dig Rock And Roll Music". Their version that first
      caught my attention was from the 90s and also included Richie Havens
      and Carly Simon.
