Subject: THE FINAL CORRECTION(S) to Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz 323 (GOLQ323)

CORRECTED RESULTS and ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz 323 (GOLQ323)

There were numerous typos and one large error in the original issue; song #15 was
inadvertently mis-identified. One team's individual song credits were not
placed in the table correctly (no scoring change), which in turn caused a
couple of changes in the recognition table.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone,

The EJs and Will McCorry are to be toasted for their perfect scores on the
quiz, including both tie-breakers. By toasted I refer to beverages and not
some thermal source. However, at this moment I think I would prefer to be
thermally toasted. NE Ohio could use some extra BTUs today.

Calculi! That was the theme of the quiz, easily identified by everyone.
Calculi is the medical term for concretions (stones) that form in various
bodily plumbing locations. I had three delightful hospital stays in 2013
to deal with these things so it inspired me to choose the "stone" theme.

I also used four songs to honor the only musical instrument I can play:
the kazoo. Sadly, I don't play it well. As far as I know these are the
only four GOLQ songs to feature the Kazoo. (#6,8,17,19)

Thanks to all who participated.

The following table gives the individual scoring breakdown. For songs 01-25,
a '.' is used to indicate that no guess was made for a question, whereas a zero
indicates that a completely incorrect response was submitted. For tie-breakers
(songs T1 & T2), a "+" indicates full credit, a "-" indicates partial credit,
an "x" indicates an incorrect guess, and a "." indicates no guess.

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #323 ANSWERS:
Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>

where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
(Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

#12) Hendricks, Bobby: "Psycho" (1960) [73] {-} <->

Somehow, I can't believe that Mr. Hendricks regards this as some
of his finest work. Even though Whitburn refers to this as a "duet",
the predominate voice is that of NY DJ Dr. Jive (Tommy Smalls) as the
psychiatrist. I had planned to use this one in my previous "deranged"
themed GOLQ but I could not for the life of me decipher all the various
incarnations of "dance" etc. that comprise most of Mr. Hendricks lyrics

#15) Poni-Tails, The: "Seven Minutes In Heaven" (1958) [85] {-} <268>

A second (albeit unintentional) second salute to a North East Ohio artist.
Also, I am reasonably certain that this is the only GOLQ eligible song to
contain the word "pooper", although #20 comes close.

#16) Rolling Stones, The: "Not Fade Away" (1964) [48] {n/c} <208><264>

I wanted to go for the twofer with "Heart Of Stone", but that pesky re-use
rule (it was in GOLQ313) prevented that.

#22) Stone Poneys, The, Featuring Linda Ronstadt: "Different Drum" (1967/68) [13] {-} <8><157><271>

I set aside my normal Scroogieness and did not take off points if you
neglected mentioning Miss Ronstadt in the artist name. 'Tis the Season and
  all that.

Delphi Trivia: The Stone Poneys had initially intended to record an
"acoustic ballad version" of the song, but their producer, Nick Venet,
opted for a more complex instrumental approach using studio musicians.
As a result, Ronstadt was the only member of the Stone Poneys who
  actually performed on the record.

#25) Welk, Lawrence: "Calcutta" (1960/1961) [1] {10} <->

Entered the R&B chart in 1961. The EJs report that the 45 full artist credit
is "Lawrence Welk and His Orchestra Featuring Frank Scott on Harpsichord".
Whitburn listing is considerably truncated reducing Frank Scott's role
  pretty much as a notation.
