RESULTS and ANSWER Key for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz 343 (GOLQ 343)

As I indicated when the quiz was issued, I thought this one was going to
be somewhat challenging quiz so congratulations are in order for the five
entrants that tied for first place with perfect scores: Dec & Friends,
Delphi Trivia, The EJ's, James White, and Village Idiots.

The intended theme was the briny deep and denizens thereof. Everyone got
it or some variation of it. Someone will probably point out that goldfish
(#25) are fresh water fish, but I claim poetic license.

Regina Litman has already posted GOLQ 344

               GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #343 ANSWERS:

Answers are in the form:

    #number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B}

where:
    "peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
    "peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
        (Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
        so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").

#01) Capitols, The: "We Got A Thing That's In The Groove" (1966) [65] {26}

Come on, put it all to work
What we gonna do
We're gonna have a ball
Form a big boss line
And keep in time
#02) Cash, Alvin, & The Crawlers: "The Barracuda" (1965) [59] {29}

I'll stay with you darling now
I'll stay with you
til' my seas are dried up
#03) Cream: "Sunshine Of Your Love" (1968) [5] {-}

Then they tried their Stingray
We were racing just for kicks
But all they saw was the
Tail lights on my 426
#04) Dale, Dick, and The Del-Tones: "The Scavenger" (1963) [98] {-}

Please don't send me
Way beyond the sea
I need you, darling
#05) Dell-Vikings, The: "Come Go With Me" (1957) [4] {2}
  Also done by Dion, but alphabetically it is excluded.

There are oceans and
Rivers enough to cross
Enough to last
'til the end of time
#06) DeShannon, Jackie: "What The World Needs Now Is Love" (1965) [7] {40}

Give out a little sigh-i-i
Take a walk in the moonlight
With a twinkle in your eye

Baby won't ya join me please
I don't like beggin'

#10) Ford, Frankie: "Sea Cruise" (1959) [14] {11}

  Per Team Teitelbaum: Written by Huey "Piano" Smith and first recorded by
  his group (The Clowns),featuring their usual lead singer, Bobby Marchan.
  Ace Records owner Johnny Vincent decided to have Frankie Ford re-record
  the lead vocal over The Clowns' original backing track, wiping the group's
  vocals from the mix. Vincent also added the nautical sound effects in the
  beginning. Here is the original version with Marchan's vocal:
      http://youtube.com/watch?v=u38F2D945cY

Oh what I'd give
To sail back to shore
Back to your arms once more
Oh come to my rescue
Come here to me
#11) Gibson, Don: "Sea Of Heartbreak" (1961) [21] {-}

  Slight lyrics change thanks to NAVAIRHEADS.
  Dropped "Just" in line 2, and "Oh" in line 5.

...sending my boyfriend
Somewhere across the sea
I know I'll cry my heart out
When they take him from me
#12 Horton, Jamie: "My Little Marine" (1960) [84] {-}

Deiner Heimat ist das Meer
Deiner Freunde sind die Sterne
Ueber Rio und Shanghai
Ueber Bali und Hawaii
Deiner Liebe ist dein Schiff
Deiner Sehnsucht ist die Ferne
#14) Lolita: "Sailor (Your Home Is The Sea)" (1960/61) [5] {-}

  Despite having spent time in several foreign countries, I am (sad to say)
  decidedly not multi-lingual. Usually, when faced with foreign tongue,
  the first thing I learn is how to order a beer. After that, all else is
  secondary. More to the point Team Teitelbaum identified a couple of lyric
  corrections. "Lido" was changed to "Rio" and "Sinsucht" was changed to
  "Sehnsucht", which they translate as "longing".

I've stood upon the pyramids of Egypt
Far away across the ocean blue
I've seen the island beauties of Hawaii
But I've never seen a beauty like you
#15) Nelson, Rick: "A Wonder Like You" (1961) [11] {-}

If you like the
Taste of a lobster stew
Served by a window
With an ocean view
#16) Page, Patti: "Old Cape Cod" (1957) [3] {-}

Floating on a sea of shattered dreams
To a isle of tears and woe
No other love could rescue me, baby
From this isle of loneliness
Until you come and save me, baby
I'll be marooned like this
#17) Platters: "Washed Ashore (On A Lonely Island In The Sea)" (1967) [56] {29}

Hey everybody gather round
Listen to that bongo sound
Grab the first one in your reach
Now we're going to shake the beach
#18) Presley, Elvis With The Jordanaires, Jubilee Four & Carol Lombard Trio:
                                               "Do The Clam" (1965) [21] {-}
  Per the EJ's: From the MGM film "Girl Happy".
  I would not have known that; I don't think I
  have ever seen an Elvis movie.

Everyone was there just waiting for me
There were plenty of Stingrays and XKEs
#19) Rip Chords, The: "Hey Little Cobra" (1963/64) [4] {n/c}

You're really learning
You're doing fine
I like the crazy way you sway
'Cause when I got you on my mind
you melt the night away.
#20) Rydell, Bobby: "The Fish" (1961) [25] {-}

The truth is America's real trouble doesn't lie in the rice paddies
of Vietnam, in the masses of Red China, or in the diabolical intrigues
to the South of us. The real trouble lies in the playgrounds of St.
Louis, the Hillside mansions of San Francisco, and in the slums of
Chicago. A disease Which is slowly eating away at the heart of America
lives in the small Southern towns, the fishing villages of New England,
and in the hot dusty Streets of the midwest.
#21) Sea, Johnny: "Day For Decision" (1966) [35] {-}

And here we sit immersed in a liquid sea of love
Shimmering rainbows in silver sky above
A looking glass that reflects our past
Tied with seaweed all around like willows

And keep all those bullies away
Hear what I say

Tell the moon up in the sky
Tell the birds that fly by
That over and over
#24) Vinton, Bobby: "Over The Mountain (Across The Sea)" (1963) [21] {-}

I'm growing up and changing all my toys
Aeroplanes, motor cars
goldfish in old jam jars
#25) Yardbirds, The: "Little Games" (1967) [51] {-}

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
#T1) Beatles: "Octopus's Garden" (1969) [-] {-}

Met her down in Madagascar
She would kiss me
Any time that I would ask her
Then one evenin'
Her flame of love blew out
Blow me down and pick me up
She swapped me for a trout.
#T2) Douglas, Kirk: "A Whale Of A Tale" (1954) [-] {-}

  Can you recall where you where on a Saturday afternoon in 1954 (presuming
  you were extant). I know that on at least one of them I spent in a theater
  watching "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" (twice!). This song stuck in my head
  then and to some extent still does. When it was recorded and released on
  vinyl it listed Kirk as being backed by the "Mellowmen".

The following table ranks the songs from most recognized to least recognized.
The first column indicates the average number of points scored on that song
