RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #364 (GOLQ364)

Congratulations to Village Idiots, who finished first by being the only team to
identify song #T2. (No one correctly identified #T1.)

Just behind were DEC & Friends and The EJ'S & Co, who got all the regular songs.
Excellent performances also by Delphi Trivia Club and Really Rockin' in Boston.

Each song has one or more audio links (quality and permanence not guaranteed).

As always, thanks to everyone who entered! The June 2017 quiz (GOLQ #365)
will be posted soon.

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #364 ANSWERS:
Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>

where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
(Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

The song's initial version was written by Mann & Weil, and was recorded by
both The Cookies and The Crystals in 1962. In its original form, the lyrics
describe someone still aspiring to get to Broadway. When Leiber & Stoller
needed another song to fill out a Drifters recording session, they worked
with Mann & Weil to revise the song into its now-familiar form, in which the
protagonist is already on Broadway, but struggling.

      (1965/66) [3] {1} <37><234>
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAcwUSVxgWA

    Songwriter/producer Sylvia Moy died 4/15/17 at 78. By 1965, Stevie's voice
had changed from his "Little Stevie" soprano, and Motown was preparing to
drop this 15-year-old has-been. Moy approached Berry Gordy and got him to
reconsider, on the condition that she could create another hit for him.
She and Hank Cosby fleshed out this song from a fragment Stevie played for
them. At the recording session, there hadn't been time to prepare a Braille
version of the lyrics for Stevie to learn, so she fed him the words via his
headphones one line ahead of the music.

prominence as a songwriter in the disco '70s ("Boogie Fever," "Heaven Must
Be Missing an Angel," "Hot Line," etc.).

#T2) Jones, Samantha: "I Deserve It" (1965) [-] {-} <->
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCmk6ZIPaa0

Arranger/conductor Arnie Goland had been long associated with Phil Spector,
before their inevitable falling-out. This song definitely has the familiar
"Wall of Sound" vibe, and its arrangement owes a good bit to "Be My Baby."
