RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #376(GOLQ376)

When I issued this quiz I warned everyone that I thought this
one might be a brain buster. Consider:
 *15 Songs were new to GOLQ.
 *The average chart position for the regular songs is about 54
 *The median chart position for the regular songs is about 49,
  with many "bottom feeders"

That fear did not take into account the marvelous oldies recall
abilities within the GOLQ quiz group. Many reported a bit of help
from the "magic" theme. I was thus spared from being sawed in
half by an angry mob of GOLQers.

Five teams recorded perfect 500++ scores: The Coasters, DEC and
Friends, The EJ's, Quad State Trivia, and the Village Idiots.
Every one who entered gets a tip of the Oldtunes' magic hat and
my thanks for participating.

To hear all 27 songs in their entirety go to:

The usual Youtube caveats apply.

Howard Teitelbaum has already posted GOLQ 377.

Great summer to all -

                GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #376 ANSWERS:
Answers are in the form:

    #number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>

where:
    "peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
    "peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
        (Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
        so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
    "xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

#04) Curtola, Bobby: "Aladdin" (1962) [92] {-}

An underrated (in the US) 60's recording artist. I had
a fellow oldies lover tell me that Bobby was the Canadian
version of Paul Anka. He winced a bit when I told him
that Paul WAS Canadian.

Does anyone remember when hotel rooms had "Magic Fingers"
devices? For a quarter you could have your bed vibrate
for fifteen minutes. Supposedly it was relaxing, but it
reminded me of being in an earthquake.

Chosen only for it's theme relationship. Horrible!
(Just my opinion of course)

of 1956.

http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ376/GOLQ376-20.mp3
#20) Sinatra, Nancy: "In Our Time" (1966) [46] {-}

A song that I had completely forgotten about until I was
putting the quiz together. I think author Lee Hazlewood
was trying to be Dylanesque with this. I had to look to
confirm that "Wizard Of Id" was still in the comics; the answer
was "yes" and has been published for 50+ years.

#T1) Del Vikings, The: "The Voodoo Man" (1958) [-] {-}

The "single 'L', no hyphen" version of the name which was the most
used spelling on Mercury labels. Written by group member Clarence
Quick.
The Del Vikings may have the most convoluted history of any group,
and the story is probably well known to most of you.

http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ376/GOLQ376-T2.mp3
#T2) Pitney, Gene: "Aladdin's Lamp" (1963) [-] {-}

Written by Gene. For some reason, the voice of the genie
reminds me a lot of of the Sandman [Archie Bleyer] on the Chordettes
"Mr. Sandman". Probably not the same person.
On some 45 pressings this is the flip side of "I'm Gonna Be
Strong". The fact that it was not on all the pressings
may have prevented Gene from having a two sided hit.
