RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #382 (GOLQ382)

Congratulations to DEC & Friends, The EJ'S & Co., and Village Idiots, who tied
for first with perfect scores.

Just behind were Will McCorry (who missed only the tiebreakers), and Delphi
Trivia Club (who ID'd all songs but had a few minor errors).

The Vito & the Salutations team added this poignant note with their entry:
We want to dedicate this entry to our very special fellow Vito, Ed Toutant,
who lost his battle with brain cancer earlier this month. Although he lived
in Austin and the rest of us are in Colorado, Ed was a member of our GOLQ team
from the very beginning and always made important contributions. Even more
important, he was a good friend to us all. For those who don't know, Ed was
one of the top money winners in game show history, winning $1.86 million in
2001 on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He never would have brought that up
himself, as he never made a big deal out of it. We're all going to miss him
but we'll have great memories every time we work on future GOLQ's.

Each song has one or more audio links (quality and permanence not guaranteed).

As always, thanks to everyone who entered! The December 2018 quiz (GOLQ #383)
will be posted soon.

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #382 ANSWERS:
Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>

where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
(Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

#T1) Gamma Goochee Himself: "I'm Gonna Buy Me A Dog" (1965) [-] {-} <->
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JKMuc3ReJ0 (Gamma Goochee, 1965)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRrdtaZw0Ww (Davy Jones from TV show, 1966)
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqmRF32xKQo (Monkees, 1966)

The B-side of "(You Got) The Gamma Goochee." I suppose the "himself" was
deemed necessary to distinguish the artist from the A-side title. His real
name was John Mangiagli (composer credit for the A-side is under that name).

The song was written by Boyce & Hart. They performed on the backing track
(on piano & percussion, respectively); the same backing track was used on
the 1965 version by The Astronauts.

Pre-Monkees, Davy Jones sang a rendition (including guitar "strum-sync'ing")
in an episode of "The Farmer's Daughter," airing on 1/7/66. Later in '66,
The Monkees recorded their rollicking rendition (as "Gonna Buy Me A Dog")
    for their debut album.

In a 2012 interview, Micky Dolenz recalled: "They wanted Davy and I to sing
that straight, like legitimate. Meaning a little pop tune for little girls,
and I remember Davy and I going, 'We're getting into our early and mid-20s
here, and we're singing to eight year olds. I mean, this is weird.' And
that's when we started goofing on the song, and of course it turned into a
little mini-classic. It's hilarious. And we've been asked over the years,
why don't you do it onstage? I don't think we ever tried, because you
couldn't possibly pull that off. It was totally improvisation, it was
    totally made up, you know?"

Any of the above-mentioned artists got full credit.

I should have told her that I needed her
When I had the chance
But now she's left me and it's all over
Goodbye, romance
#T2) Mimms, Garnet: "It Was Easier To Hurt Her" (1965) [124] {-} <->
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtBEHx5Qhck (Garnet Mimms)

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1thRAjLbI0 (Chris Farlowe)
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwi8-xREBeI (Dusty Springfield)

I also accepted the cover versions by Wayne Fontana (1965) and Chris
Farlowe (1966). Dusty Springfield also recorded a version in 1965 (as
"It Was Easier To Hurt Him").
