RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #385 (GOLQ385)

Congratulations to the Village Idiots and Delphi Trivia Club, who tied for
first, each with perfect scores. Other teams who identified all the regular
songs were NavairHeads, Mike Weaver and Will McCorry. Most teams had a good idea
of the theme, which included the word "Love" or a variation in the artist, title
or lyrics. The average score was 378.5.

Thanks to everyone who entered. GOLQ #386 has been posted.

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #385 ANSWERS:
Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>
where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
(Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

it.

Funny how precious memories linger on
So long after you've gone
Oh precious memories, they only make me cry
But I keep holdin' on
#15) Martha & The Vandellas: "Love (Makes Me Do Foolish Things)" (1965/66) [70]

Does she feel just what I feel
And how am I to know it's really real
Oh tell me where the answer lies
Is it in her kiss or in her eyes
#16) McPhatter, Clyde: "A Lover's Question" (1958/59) [6] {1} <50><137><194>

Three thousand hugs I'm saving
Four only you
#21) Rydell, Bobby: "We Got Love" (1959/60) [6] {-} <34><237>

#24) Volume's, The: "I Love You" (1962) [22] {-} <41><196><250>
QM: Congrats to those who recognized this doo-wop chorus. I know the song mostly
from its appearance in the 70s movie, The Wanderers.

Tears from your little sister
Crying 'cause she doesn't have
A dress without a patch
For the party to go
Oh, but you know she'll get by
#25) Winstons, The: "Love Of The Common People" (1969) [54] {-} <87>

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

Gave me a piece of good advice
Said it would do me well
I couldn't really tell until
I have been loving you
Now it seems
Things are not so strange
I can see more clearly
Suddenly, I've found my way
#T1) Love: "Old Man" (1968) [-] {-} <->
QM: From the Forever Changes album, composed by Bryan Maclean. The drummer wrote
a well-received book, now hard to find, on his life and times in the band. He
describes the day the band walked in the studio to work on this album, only to
find some members of the Wrecking Crew trying to play the songs. The label
thought it was a good idea that would speed up the effort, but the hired hands
could not reproduce the Love 'sound', and the idea was abandoned. The original
band completed the album at their own pace. The book also did a good job of
describing just how a typical 60s band member lived his life from day-to-day.

Down through the years, we've had hard times and tears
But they only helped our love grow
And we'll stay together no matter how strong the wind blows
Not once have I seen your blue eyes filled with envy
Or stray from the one that you hold
#T2) Presley, Elvis: "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road" (1969) [-] {-} <->
DL: Also performed by Percy Sledge. Written by A.L. "Doodle" Owens and Dallas
Frazier, who also penned one of my favorite early-70s songs, "Johnny One Time"
for Brenda Lee. Elvis Presley had a possibly-better-known version, but to my
knowledge it was not released as a single.
NV: Backed by 827 Thomas Street Band, informally known as "The Memphis Boys"
