RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #394 (GOLQ394)

Congratulations to my four first place winners, all with perfect scores: James
White; the Village Idiots; The EJ's & Co, and Delphi Trivia. The latter three
were also the top winners of my previous GOLQ 389 quiz...we must have similar
tastes...ha! No team identified, or if they did identify, did not mention, my
"blatantly obvious" clue, which was that #8 and #15 have the exact same title.

Of note: Team Dale Latimer drew to my attention that two versions of Henry
Mancini's "Charade" exist, one as a single and one as an album cut. The single
that charted on Billboard was purely instrumental. I drew my lyrics for song
#14 from the album cut. I did not realize there was a difference but, because
the album version did not chart on Billboard, the lyrics to #14 are ineligible.
To avoid unfairly penalizing any team for failing to identify #14, I gave every
team full credit, thereby neutralizing the song.

As always, thanks to everyone who entered. Rich Ardini has already
posted GOLQ 395.

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #394 ANSWERS:

Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>
where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
(Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

#14) Mancini, Henry, and His Orchestra: "Charade" (1963/64) [36] {-} <->

Note: Dale Latimer team reported that the above lyrics only appear in the

If you don't know the thrill
That makes my heart stand still
If you don't feel
The same appeal
Then I know one who will

Buyin' bootleg liquor, Champagne and wine
#22) Simone, Nina: "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" (1960) [93] {23}
      <289>

Note: Although this song did not chart well during the GOLQ era, it has been
a staple for blues players and singers, notably Eric Clapton, who featured the
song on several albums, including his 1992 album, "Unplugged."

Taller than the tallest tree is
That's how it's got to feel
Deeper than the deep blue sea is
That's how deep it goes, if it's real
#23) Sinatra, Frank: "All the Way" (1957) [2] {-} <282>

Will you love me or leave me tonight
#25) Vee, Bobby, and the Shadows: "Suzie Baby" (1959) [77] {-} <264>

Note: Don't know if he is actually on the original recording, but Bob Dylan
played this song with Bobby's band, the Shadows, and it was his first paying
gig. Check out Bob paying tribute to Bobby, who had been recently forced into
retirement due to his Alzheimers. Bob, IMHO, was more talkative, open, and
warm to the audience than usual. He offered kind words and then covered the
song, on July 10, 2013, in St. Paul, MN. Enjoy!

Tie-Breakers
------------

I love you with all my heart
Adore you and all your charms
I want you to do your part
Come here to my open arms
#T1) Harptones, The: "Life Is But A Dream" (1955)

Note: Featured in the 1990 Academy Award winning movie "Goodfellas." Covered
by a number of artists, but the Harptones version is considered the "classic."
Gave artist credit to The Earls, whose version "bubbled under" at 107 in 1961.
Also gave artist credit for Jay And The Americans, who barely squeezed in
eligibility by releasing this song on their 1969 album, "Sands Of Time."

Good mornin' baby, how you do this mornin'?
Well, please, ma'am, just a lovin' spoon, just a lovin' spoonful
#T2) Hurt, Mississippi John: "Coffee Blues" (1966)

Note: From this legendary folk/blues singer and guitarist's, "Today" album.
The group Lovin' Spoonful admired Hurt, and took their name from this song.
Several teams noted and mentioned this fact, which was the impetus for me
using the song in the quiz.
