Perhaps a bit sexist when viewed through today's goggles, but there are about 200 or so GOLQ titles with the world "girl" in them. All of you caught on to that as the "commonality" in the quiz. Incidentally, I only noted about 10 songs with "boy" in the title. Probably reflects the majority gender of who was writing the music. Many of you commented that recognition of "girl/girls" in the title increased song identification by a lot. That being said, congratulations go out to EVERYBODY due to the extremely high scores that were achieved. Differentiation in most cases was solely due to one or both of the tie-breakers not being identified. I knew T2 was going to be impossible, but I now must re-define "impossible" because about half of you identified it, even though it was not released in the US. Hope you had fun with this one. "peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart. (Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65, so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").) Song #8, "Morning Girl, Later", is a follow-up to this and concludes the opera. Shaun Cassidy did a version of "Morning Girl, Later" with altered lyrics in the 70s, but titled it "Morning Girl". Here is a youtube link for the Neon Philharmonic's "Morning Girl, Later". It is kind of a completion to the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPF8qmaihFE Posting the Shaun Cassidy version may be some kind of sacrilege for this group but it is on YT if you want to hear it. http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ396/GOLQ396-14.mp3 #14) Orbison, Roy: "(Say) You're My Girl" (1965) [39] {-} http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ396/GOLQ396-15.mp3 #15) Page, Patti: "A City Girl Stole My Country Boy" (1961) [90} {-} http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ396/GOLQ396-16.mp3 #16) Presley, Elvis: "Long Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On) (1967) [63] {-} http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ396/GOLQ396-17.mp3 #17) Royal Teens, The: "Harvey's Got A Girl Friend" (1958) [78] {-} http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ396/GOLQ396-18.mp3 #18) Safaris, The, with The Phantom's Band: "The Girl With The Story In Her Eyes" (1960) [85] {-} http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ396/GOLQ396-19.mp3 #19) Shirelles, The: "What Does A Girl Do?" Did a little better in the Cashbox rankings at #95. http://golq.org/Clips/GOLQ396/GOLQ396-T2.mp3 #T2) Shaw, Sandie: "Tell The Boys" (1967) [-] {-} Yes, this is the flip side to last month's tie-breaker. I was in Europe when these songs were played in 1967 (Thank You Uncle Sam). Can't say that I thought much of "Puppet On A String" but I did like this one. It was the runner-up in the Eurovision song contest, and according to several sources it was preferred by Sandie. When "Puppet" was released over here it had a different "B" side: "I Had A Dream Last Night". As I said in the intro, I am awed by the fact that so many of you identified it because it was not released as a single (that I know of) in the US. It is/was available however on the greatest hits CD compilation titled "Puppet On A String". ============================================================================ The following table ranks the songs from most recognized to least recognized. The first column indicates the average number of points scored on that song(total points divided by number of entrants).
