RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #404 (GOLQ404)

Congratulations to the Village Idiots, Delphi Trivia Club, and James White,
each having identified all 25 songs and artists in the main part of the quiz,
as well as both tie breakers.

In preparing the results of the quiz, I noticed that songs #14 and #15 were
out of alphabetical order. Interestingly, a number of teams correctly
identified both songs anyway, without comment. To rectify the error, I
correctly re-ordered the songs and offered teams that missed one or both songs
an opportunity to resubmit an answer for either or both songs.

These results reflect the corrected order and updated entries, as required.
The website will also reflect the corrected order for both the quiz
and the results.

As always, thanks to everyone who entered. Rich Ardini has already posted
milestone GOLQ 405, which includes a commemorative puzzle to celebrate the
30th anniversary of the GOLQ!

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #404 ANSWERS:

Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>
where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
(Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

Note: Many laud Paul McCartney for his innovative fuzz-bass on The Beatles'
recording of George Harrison's "Think For Yourself," but I believe this song,
recorded four years prior to the 1965 "Rubber Soul" album, was actually the
first known instance of a recording featuring a fuzz bass.

The following table ranks the songs from most recognized to least recognized.
The first column indicates the average number of points scored on that song
(total points divided by number of entrants). For comparison purposes, tie-
breakers are scored here on the usual 20-point scale.

Note: Only big surprise was that Steve Lawrence's "Footsteps," which reached
a respectable #7 on the Billboard charts, was second from the bottom (tied)
as least recognized song. I also thought that The Beatles' "Good Night," even
though a tie breaker, would have fared better.
