In spite of songs #5, #6, #7, #12, #21, #22, and #23 being used for the first time, most teams had no trouble identifying therm. Further, T1 turned out not to be much of a tie breaker, because every team identified this classic rock song by the late, great Eddie Cochran. I missed seeing entries from several "regulars," but as always, thanks to everyone who entered. Rich Ardini has already posted GOLQ 415, which includes another signature Puzzler from Bob Bluestein! - Tom Pillion ________________________________________________________________________________ After each score below are two characters representing the two tie-breakers: + indicates a tie-breaker answered correctly. - indicates partial credit. x indicates a totally incorrect guess. . indicates no guess. Also featured in the movie, "The Girl Can't Help It." According to Wikepedia, this was the song Paul McCartney first played to John Lennon the day they met. Do you wonder about me Like I'm hoping you do Are you lonesome without me Have you found someone new #T2) Louvin Brothers, The: "How's The World Treating You" (1961) <-> Note: Also accepted Jim Reeves as the artist. Written by Chet Atkins and Boudleaux Bryant ("Bye Bye Love," "All I Have To Do Is Dream," etc.), Song has been covered by multiple artists, most notably by Elvis Presley (who omits this verse, and who is also featured in the main part of the quiz, so he is not eligible as an artist) from his 1956 album, "Elvis," and covered beautifully in a 2003 duet by Alison Krauss and James Taylor. =========================================================================== The following table ranks the songs from most recognized to least recognized. The first column indicates the average number of points scored on that song (total points divided by number of entrants). For comparison purposes, tie- breakers are scored here on the usual 20-point scale. Avg. Song -----+----+------------------------------------------------------------------ 20.00 #08) Diamond, Neil: "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon" 20.00 #09) Domino, Fats: "My Blue Heaven" 20.00 #18) McPhatter, Clyde: "Lover Please" 20.00 #T1) Cochran, Eddie: "Twenty Flight Rock" 18.00 #02) Association, The: "No Fair At All" 18.00 #03) Baker, LaVern, and The Gliders: "Tweedlee Dee" 18.00 #10) Fiestas, The: "So Fine" 18.00 #11) Gibson, Don: "Oh Lonesome Me" 18.00 #14) King, Ben E.: "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)" 18.00 #16) Lee, Brenda: "Fool #1" 18.00 #17) Mathis, Johnny: "Chances Are" 17.00 #07) Collins, Judy: "Chelsea Morning" 16.00 #01) Ames Brothers, The: "Melodie D'Amour (Melody Of Love)" 16.00 #13) Jones, Tom: "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" 16.00 #20) Page, Patti: "Old Cape Cod" 14.00 #04) Boone, Pat: "Two Hearts" 14.00 #05) Cash, Johnny: "I Got Stripes" 14.00 #06) Clanton, Jimmy: "Another Sleepless Night" 14.00 #19) New Colony Six, The: "I Will Always Think About You" 14.00 #24) Sandpipers, The: "Guantanamera" 12.00 #15) King, Carole: "He's A Bad Boy" 12.00 #21) Paul, Les, and Mary Ford: "Put A Ring On My Finger" 12.00 #23) Rush, Merrilee, & The Turnabouts: "That Kind Of Woman" 12.00 #25) Stewart, Andy, with The White Heather Group: "Donald Where's Your Troosers?" 11.00 #12) Greenwich, Ellie: "I Want You To Be My Baby" 08.00 #22) Presley, Elvis, with The Jordanaires: "My Wish Came True" 05.00 #T2) Louvin Brothers, The: "How's The World Treating You" Surprises: Association's, "No Fair At All" fared (no pun intended) much better than I would have guessed. Although "My Wish Came True" was a flip side of Elvis's "Big Hunk Of Love," it still hit #12 and I would have thought it to be more easily identified than #15, #21, #23, and #25, all of which I intended to be my "stumpers." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Pillion <golq414@golq.org)
