The clue answers: A) Jackie Wilson's "NIGHT" reached #4 on the pop charts, his highest charting hit B) In the song "Heart" from the musical "Damn Yankees", the hapless Washington Senators' manager tells his team they "gotta have HOPE" C) "POINT Panic" was The Surfaris' follow-up to "Wipe Out" b/w "Surfer Joe" D) Banana and Louie were Brian Wilson's DOGS, who provided some real "pet sounds" by barking at a passing train, the last sounds heard on side two of the Beach Boys' album "Pet Sounds" E) Marvin Gaye is accompanied on "HITCH HIKE" by Martha and The Vandellas F) Frankie Avalon and The Shocking Blue had chart toppers with different songs entitled "VENUS" G) Roy Hamilton's "Don't Let Go" begins "Hear that WHISTLE, it's ten o'clock" H) A TUBA sits on the ground on the famous "Sgt. Pepper's" cover I) Brian Wilson released the single "CAROLINE, No" as a solo artist J) Chuck Jackson & MAXINE Brown released "Something You Got" and four other duets as singles in the 60's K) ETTA James & Sugar Pie DeSanto released "Do I Make Myself Clear" and "In The Basement - Part 1" in the 60's L) "TIME IS Tight" was Booker T. & The MG's' follow-up to "Hang 'Em High" M) TONY ASHER co-wrote with Brian Wilson 8 of the 13 songs on "Pet Sounds", the album second only to Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" on Rolling Stone's 2020 "Greatest Albums of All Time" list N) Carl Perkins released "PINK Pedal Pushers" in '58, Dodie Stevens released "Pink Shoe Laces" in '59, and Mitchell Torok released "Pink Chiffon" in '60 O) Anita Humes joined The ESSEX and sang lead on "Easier Said Than Done" P) MITCH Miller with his Orchestra and Chorus hit #1 with "The Yellow Rose Of Texas" in '55; Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels hit #4 with "Devil With A Blue Dress On & Good Golly Miss Molly" in '66 The grid solution: Some people might think that sex is the highest experience you can have. I tend to think that music is. - BRIAN WILSON The letters in one of the columns of the grid rearrange to spell out IN MY ROOM, a single from the Beach Boys' '63 album "Surfer Girl". One of the clue answers' columns spells out GOOD VIBRATIONS, which was mostly recorded during the '66 "Pet Sounds" sessions, but did not appear on an album until '67's "Smiley Smile". As to the bonus question: Paul Tanner was a former trombonist with Glenn Miller and His Orchestra who in the late '50's co-developed the Electro-Theremin, an electronic musical instrument that mimicked the sound of the theremin but was easier to control. Brian Wilson had him play it to produce the weird sci-fi sounds on "Good Vibrations" and other Beach Boys songs. Said Tanner of his first "Pet Sounds" session: "Brian came over to me and sang such and such a thing, and I said 'Well, write it down and I'll play it', and he said 'Write it down? We don't write anything down'." The album "Pet Sounds" along with the singles "In My Room", "I Get Around", "California Girls", and "Good Vibrations" are all in the Grammy Hall of Fame. The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Here's hoping you had FUN, FUN, FUN!
