RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #427 (GOLQ427)

Congratulations to The EJ's & Company, the only team to identify all songs in
the main part of the quiz, as well as both tie-breakers. The EJ's were
followed closely by the Village Idiots, who missed only the artist in T2.

The Delphi Trivia Club, Tri-State, and Mike Weaver also had near perfect
scores, being tripped up only by my #13 stumper.

Thirteen songs were identified by every team, and most teams identified a high
percentage of the remaining songs.

Thanks to all who entered.

          GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #427 ANSWERS

Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>
where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
 (Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

To live my life with one desire

#11) Harris, Richard: "The Yard Went On Forever" (1968) [64] {-} <192>

Note: Again, apologies to Mike Weaver for my including #11 in this quiz. I say
this because, in one of my previous quizzes, he informed me that, along with
Richard Harris's version of MacArthur Park, this has to be one of the worst
songs to hit the charts during the GOLQ Era...thanks, Mike, for still agreeing
to play! I was a big fan of Jimmy Webb back in those days, but I have to agree
with Mike that the lyrics in those two songs are a bit "over the top."

I say everybody's got to have their day
And don't you know that
#12) Herman's Hermits: "Listen People" (1966) [3] {-} <3><177><313>

done, IMHO.

Come all without
Come all within
#14) Manfred Mann: "Mighty Quinn (Quinn The Eskimo)" (1968) [10] {-}

Bom, ma ba bom
Ba bom ba bom bom
Ba ma bom ba ba bom
Ba dangy dang dang
Ba dingy dong ding
#15) Marcels, The: "Blue Moon" (1961) [1] {1} <26><141>

Note: I wasn't sure if I accurately captured all the "Bam, ma ba mom's"
correctly, but since no entrant missed this song, I guess I got close enough!

Oh how I loved her, heaven knows
But though my heart was true,
It would never do
Party life was what she chose
#16) Martino, The: "Painted, Tainted Rose" (1963) [15] {?} <->

If he came back

My heart and all it can give
For just as long as I live
#18)  Presley, Elvis: "I'm Yours" (1965) [11] {-} <189>

Note: A personal favorite of mine that I first heard and came to like on his
1962 "Pot Luck" album, three years prior to its release as a single

'Cause I've got the real love
The kind that you need
#19) Rolling Stones, The: "Time Is On My Side" (1964/65) [6] {n/c}

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

And now the time has come
And so, my love, I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know
#T1) Beatles, The: "I'll Follow The Sun" (1964/65) <->

Note: Not much of a tie-breaker, in that every entrant correctly identified this
song. Howard writes: Paul says he wrote the song (presumably in less-polished
form) when he was around 16, hence approximately in 1958. Recorded in October
'64 & released that December on "Beatles for Sale" (UK) and "Beatles '65 (US).

The nicest part of any melody
Is when you're dancing close to me
#T2) Brewer, Teresa: "Music! Music! Music!" (1950) <->

Note: Debut hit that reached #1; Teresa re-recorded it several times in
subsequent years, once in the early 1970's, but it never charted again.

Also accepted Petula Clark, who made an obscure recording in 1949, as a valid
artist. Ineligible artists, because their versions charted, were the Sensations
(#54 in 1961, and with slightly different lyrics) and the and the Happenings
(#96) in 1968.

The first column indicates the average number of points scored on that song
(total points divided by number of entrants). For comparison purposes, tie-
