Ray died 8/18/23 at 82. He wrote "Hey Paula" at the request of a friend
whose girlfriend had that name, but Ray said that the lyrics were inspired
by his hopes to rekindle his own romance with his former girlfriend Judy.
After he quit mid-way through a Dick Clark Caravan tour in 1963 (Dick filled
in as "Paul" for the rest of the tour), Ray & Judy reconciled and were
married from 1964 until her passing in 1999.

The group became acquainted with Lou Christie before his rise to fame. Once
he hit it big, he got them signed by United Artists. Despite having this &
other tunes written for them by Lou & his regular writing partner,
Twyla Herbert, there were no hits forthcoming for the group.
The Tammys comprised sisters Cathy & Gretchen Owens, plus their friend
Linda Jones. Mike W. alerted me that Cathy passed away recently
(10/11/22, at 75); an interesting obit item was that one of her daughters
was named "Tammy"!
