It was identified by 13 of the 15 entrants. (T3 for scoring purposes). Excellent job by everyone! Many entrants commented that my theme made the quiz so much easier... which was my intention! I personally think that having a theme that makes it easier to identify the lesser known songs makes the quiz more fun to solve. Vivre Juopperi had this interesting comment about the theme: "Your hint,'the theme has nothing to do with lyrics or the artists', pretty much gave it away that is has to something to do with song titles. So, taking a look at the songs. Song #01, that's easy, it's "Bend Me, Shape Me". At this point assuming that's the first letters spell out the answer and the first letter being B. My first thought was "Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys". Quick check, 25 letters, could be that. Was I surprised when it actually was. Surprised because it turned out to be the correct answer, not because naming Brian Wilson your favorite. He's clearly my favorite composer too. In fact, it was the music of the Beach Boys that got me hooked on 60's music." Congratulations to Anne Hallerman, Randy Price, Mike Weaver, The Village Idiots and Vito & the Salutations all of whom had perfect scores! Also a special mention to Jyrki Ilva for submitting an entry for the first time in 20 years! Welcome back! I am pleasantly surprised that many of the entrants were able to identify the tie breakers. Hope everyone enjoyed the quiz! Thanks to everyone who entered. Hey, I thought I was smart I'd won his heart Ah, I didn't think I'd lose But now I see #11) DeShannon, Jackie: "Needles And Pins" (1963) [84] {-} JI: Last year there were two fabulous archival releases of DeShannon's early material: "The Sherry Lee Show" (a 2CD/2LP collection on Sundazed) features more than 30 tunes from her 1956-57 radio shows on WMRO, a local Aurora, Illinois station. "Little Bit of Heaven. The 1964 Metric Music Demos" (Teensville) contains a selection of 35 early-sixties songwriter demos, recorded while she was a staff writer at Metric Music, the song-publishing arm of Liberty records. My memory (always suspect) says that I heard it on radio here locally (Cleveland) more that its chart position would indicate. Might be due to our proximity to Pittsburgh where it was one of those "Porky" favorites. There is a (sort of) answer song to this; "Tarnished Angel" by Anita May. Pretty much the same melody (and same author credit), but not issued until six years later.
