RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #450 (GOLQ450)

Just like at summer camp, everybody gets a trophy. There was an eight-way tie
for first place. Really Rockin' In Boston submitted the first perfect entry.
The others are listed below.

An inspiration for this quiz was coffee table photo books I saw a few years ago
with titles like "A Day Across America", etc.

This was my GOLQ version of that concept. The two primary themes were summer
activities, and songs about the United States, its history, cities,
patriotism/protests, etc. The overall theme was songs by American groups and
solo artists only. I included as many iconic American artists as possible. A
few of the acts also had some Canadian heritage in them.

The average score was 470. Seventeen songs were identified by all teams.

Teams that submitted Puzzler answers are Randy Price, Team Teitellion and Will
McCorry. The complete Puzzler solution is below. And thanks to Bob Bluestein
for continuing to provide these puzzlers.

Thanks to everyone who entered, including a new team, the Kreitzer Family.
GOLQ #451 has been posted.

GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #450 ANSWERS:
Answers are in the form:

#number) Artist: "Title" (chart year) [peak Pop] {peak R&B} <xxx>...<yyy>
where:
"peak Pop" = Peak position achieved on the weekly Billboard Pop chart.
"peak R&B" = Peak position on the weekly Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart.
(Billboard didn't publish an R&B chart between 11/30/63 and 1/23/65,
so recordings in that interval show peak R&B of {n/c} ("no chart").)
"xxx",...,"yyy" = prior GOLQ(s) in which the song appeared, if any.

#T2) Simon & Garfunkel: "April, Come She Will" (1966) [-] {-}
TT: Based on a nursery rhyme Paul encountered while living in England in '64.
It apparently describes the migratory habits of the cuckoo, but he
revised it into a romantic remembrance. One version I found is:
        In April, come she will
In flowery May, she doth sing all day
In leafy June, she doth change her tune
In bright July, she doth begin to fly
        In August, go she must

The grid solution:

Please allow me to introduce myself
      .
      .
      .
   Pleased to meet you
   Hope you guess my name
   But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

This was your introduction to another "puzzler" - the master of puzzlement
and "man of wealth and taste" who explains himself in The Rolling Stones
song "Sympathy For The Devil".

The letters in one column of the completed Clue Answers section spell out
THE ROLLING STONES.

"Sympathy For The Devil" was the first track on The Rolling Stones album
"Beggars Banquet". Even though the cut was not released as a U.S. single in
the '60s, it made #32 on Rolling Stone magazine's 2004 list of "Greatest
Songs of All Time".

Given the title of The Rolling Stones' previous studio album, "Their Satanic
Majesties Request", and the lyrics to "Sympathy For The Devil", some raised
concerns that the group might have a corrupting "devil worship" influence on
youth. However, the song probably escaped further scrutiny when the album's
sole U.S. single, "Street Fighting Man", became even more controversial in
view of all the '60s U.S. race riots.

And oh, yes ...

The letters in the left column of the empty grid spell out the narrator of
the self-introduction above ... LUCIFER. The devil is, as always, in the
details. Hope you guessed his name!
