RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #463 (GOLQ463)
Congratulations to Randy Price for submitting the only perfect entry! If you
found this quiz difficult, I hope at least you had fun. I like finding out who,
like myself, when it comes to oldies is another (what my late wife
affectionately called me) Garbage Head.
As you may recall, it was my intention to have songs on this quiz that had
never been used in previous quizzes. Only 2 songs on the quiz have been.
As a first time quizmaster, I originally did not pay attention to how important
it was to see what the name of a group was at the time the song on the quiz was
recorded. I twice originally based my sequence on the group name they used on
later recordings (usually including the name of the lead singer). I left one on
the quiz at #7, but yanked the other.
I also did not pay attention to the rule to not only check if a song had been
used on a previous quiz not far back enough, but to also apply the same rule to
all versions of the same song if multiple artists recorded it and had to pull
the song off the quiz because a version by another artist had been previously
used.

He's a Philly guy.
#03) Caiola, Al: "Bonanza" (1961) [19] {-}
Once the Smothers Brothers started, I stopped watching that show. No VCRs or
DVRs or on demand streaming back then.
#04) Daddy-O's: "Got A Match?" (1958) [39] {-}
A guy by the name of Billy Mure wrote the song and produced this record. Billy
became the arranger and leader of bands for the following artists - Rosemary
Clooney, Bobby Darin, Paul Anka, Perry Como. I interviewed him at age 95 and he
was still playing guitar and banjo in clubs. I am honored that the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland has my interview in its archives. E-mail

It was brought to my attention after we "went to press", that this song was
billed to the First Edition. If you look up First Edition in Whitburn, it tells
you to go to Kenny. But I promise to be careful of things like this next time.

Another TV show theme. The student center at my college made sure it was on the
TV there every day.
#09) Hendrix, Jimi, Experience: "Up From the Skies" (1968) [82] {-}
One of Jimi's overlooked songs, but since it was a single, here it is.
#10) Johnny and the Hurricanes: "Crossfire" (1959) [23] {-}
Their first chart entry. Heard it and used it quite a lot as a bridge to
network news at the top of the hour.

Outcharting Sandy Stewart's version which was out the same time and peaked at
#20. This is the version that got airplay in NYC.

You might wonder....how many songs with this title charted in the top 100 in
the rock era.....the answer is 12.

I was at a music trivia game recently and the question was 7 artists with the
name Lewis have had top 20 songs in the rock era. I got 6 of them. Why I missed
this guy, I don't know.

Hey guys, if you wanted to be part of the British Invasion, you were a couple
of years too late.

Famous actor. Look him up on IMDB. His wife as well. And daughter too.

One of 4 songs with this title capitalizing on the TV show Laugh-In's recurring
segment.

I hate drum solos. How his records sold puzzles me. Not saying he wasn't
talented, just.........

They were from Sweden 5 years before ABBA. The version by Chris Montez was
from 7 years earlier.

He did this one without his wife, his final charting song, covering Bert
