RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #469 (GOLQ469)
Congratulations to the Village Idiots and Virve Juopperi, with scores of 500,
missing only the tie-breakers. Actually, everybody missed the tie-breakers.
The EJ'S and Tri State Trivia both managed a runner-up score of 460.
The main entries had one thing in common, which was that they hadn't been
used since the quiz was in double digits (i.e., not since GOLQ099). There
are more of these than you'd think, so I had to be really selective in
scrolling through the used-song list, trying to avoid tie-breakers and songs
without a lot of useable lyrics. Also, as in my last quiz, I tried to avoid
using the same sample of lyrics that had been used previously.
Both tie-breakers were, again, bubbling-under songs. T1 was the one I
considered "apt", but T2 (inadvertently) displayed the same "aptness",
as noted below.
Thanks to all who particated. Rich Ardini has posted GOLQ470.

#T1) Giant Sunflower: "February Sunshine" (1967) [106] {-}
I had this crazy notion that I could find a song with "February" in the
title, and Whitburn didn't disappoint me. There's a story behind this
song: It was originally recorded by a group of studio musicians under
the band name "Giant Sunflower". An L.A. band named The Blokes were
induced to change their name to "Giant Sunflower" when a band was needed
to perform the song live. The Blokes later changed their name to The Rose
Garden and had a Top-40 hit with "Next Plane To London", so the song is
listed under "The Rose Garden" in Whitburn's Hot 100 book. On top of
that, a re-recorded version of the song appears on The Rose Garden's
only album.
Up with the sun Monday
I'm on the run Tuesday
Wednesday's the same
All of the day through
#T2) Jones, Jack: "The Weekend" (1966) [123] {-}
or Lawrence, Steve: "The Week-End" (1966) [131] {-}
I thought this one would be easier. It got enough airplay on the local
stations that I remember it. Apparently it didn't chart at all in Canada,
and the best it did on any chart was Billboard's Easy Listening Chart, where
it got to #20. I didn't notice while researching the song, but both
Jones's and Lawrence's versions debuted in February 1966, so that was
sort of apt as well.

number on the line denotes the average number of points scored on that song
(total points divided by number of entrants, to 2 decimal places). For
comparison purposes, tie-breakers are scored here on the usual 20-point scale.
