RESULTS & ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #473 (GOLQ473)
Ok, ok, I was nasty. I promise to be nice next time. The songs were tough, and
I compacted the alpha sequence so that all the artists began with A or B. How
many of you recall a guy who I feel was an underrated comedian by the name of
Robert Klein? He did a bit which was a parody of all those K-Tel commercials
called "Every Record Ever Recorded". And here we are where You Tube has made
this a reality so I can dig up any song that peaked at number 135 for one week
and take a clip from it. And I think perhaps I don't intend to be mean but
rather I'm trying to find a song that You Tube does not have a video for. When
that happens, I'll let you know. Meanwhile, a good number of teams got all 25
regular clips correct, and it was just the tie-breakers that gave some folks
trouble. Perfect games were pitched by Team Teitellion, Village Idiots,
Really Rockin' In Boston and Tri-State Trivia.

4 charted songs for this guy, and the best he did was #28.
#02) Addrisi Brothers: "Cherrystone" (1959) [62] {-} <115><323>
Their next charted song came 13 years later in 1972. I'll consider them a 2-hit
wonder since both "We've Got to Get It on Again" and "Slow Dancin'" got
considerable airplay and were both top 25.
#03) Alaimo, Chuck, Quartet: "Leap Frog" (1957) [92] {-}
That's all she wrote for them.
#04) Alice Wonder Land: "He's Mine (I Love Him, I Love Him, I Love Him)"

Maybe she thought calling herself that would sell records. Wrong! And like the
previous song, her only line in Whitburn.
#05) Angels: "Wow Wow Wee (He's the Boy for Me)" (1964) [41] {n/c} <129><188>
I interviewed Peggy Santiglia, who replaced the lead singer of "Til", Linda
Jansen. They did have a #1 record. This was their last chart entry and a
favorite of mine. Peggy later was a member of Dusk, which was created by Tony
Orlando's producers and had 3 low charting songs in 1971.
#06) Armen, Kay: "Ha! Ha! Ha! (Chelia Lia!)" (1957) [91] {-}
Her real name is long and unpronouncable and you can look it up. Another
Whitburn one-line wonder, however, he tells us she had a #7 song in 1944.
#07) Armenian Jazz Sextet: "Harem Dance" (1957) [67] {-}
Their only entry as well; however, Ralph Marterie took a version of this song,
called it "Shish Kebob", and had a #10 record.
#08) Arnold, Eddy: "Tennessee Stud" (1959) [48] {-}
I couldn't have all artists you have never heard of on the quiz. A country
legend, although if you look at his pop chart record, he has 29 songs in
Whitburn and only "Make The World Go Away" finished higher than #22.
#09) Association: "Pandora's Golden Heebie Jeebies"

They followed up "Cherish" with this. I also interviewed Jim Yester of the
group, who tried to explain the lyrics of this song to me but lost me.
#10) Banks, Darrell: "Somebody (Somewhere) Needs You" (1966) [55] {34}
My Philly buddies remember his "Open the Door to your Heart" earlier that year.
Shot to death by an off-duty officer 4 years later.
#11) Barry, Len: "Lip Sync (To the Tongue Twisters)" (1965) [84] {-}
Odd choice to establish himself as a solo singer after leaving the Dovells.
He did quickly follow it up with "1-2-3" which went to #2, but never cracked
the top 20 again. In the NYC radio listening area, WMCA played the song and
played a chorus of boos when Barry sang "A-B-C" in the lyrics because WABC was
their top 40 competitor.
#12) Bass, Fontella: "Recovery" (1965/66) [37] {13}
Follow up to "Rescue Me" which always had me thinking it might have been a
young Aretha.
#13) Beck, Jimmy, & His Orchestra: "Pipe Dreams" (1959) [82] {-}
Once again, an artist with their one Whitburn line of fame.
#14) Bellus, Tony: "Robbin' the Cradle" (1959) [25] {-}
If you're going to have one entry, peaking at #25 ain't too bad.

One of these days, I will put together a show of songs by girl groups, the
titles of which are just a guy's name. I hated being called "Frankie" and along
came Connie Francis and I would shut the radio off. One of the ladies in this
group was in Bobby Boris Pickett's Crypt-Kickers.
#16) Betters, Harold: "Do Anything You Wanna (Part 1)" (1964/65) [74] {n/c}
Sorry I got obsessed with all these one-line wonders.
#17) Blackwell, Charlie: "Midnight Oil" (1959) [55] {-}
Yes another song from the one liners club. But don't feel too sorry for him.
He did play drums for Stan Kenton and Dave Brubeck.
#18) Bluenotes: "I Don't Know What It Is" (1959/60) [61] {-}
Not to be confused with Harold Melvin's gang. They were 2 words, these guys
just one. They were George Hamilton IV's backup vocal group.
#19) Blues Magoos: "Pipe Dream" (1967) [60] {-}
Yeah, this is the follow up to "We Ain't Got Nothing Yet", which was their only
song peaking better than this one.
#20) Bo, Eddie: "Hook and Sling-Part 1" (1969) [73] {13}
Why he had to shorten his name from Bocage, go figure.
#21) Bob & Earl: "Don't Ever Leave Me" (1962) [85] {-}
Don't let the name fool you. This is "Rockin' Robin" Bobby Day and Jackie "Do
The Duck" Lee.
#22) Bond, Johnny: "Ten Little Bottles" (1965) [43] {-}
Follow up to his version of "Hot Rod Lincoln". Member of The Country and Western
Hall of Fame. The video of this song, which is a live performance, is a riot, as
he pretends(?) to get more and more wasted as the song goes on.
#23) Bonnie and the Treasures: "Home of the Brave" (1965) [77] {-}
I can write one line about them. Here it is. The lead singer's name was really
Charlotte.
#24) Bradley, Owen Quintet: "Big Guitar" (1958) [46] {-}
Follow up to one of the umpteen versions of "White Silver Sands", which was
top 20. Another artist where looking at Whitburn isn't too impressive, but
another member of the Country and Western Hall of Fame plus a Grammy Trustees
Award.
#25) Braun, Bob: "Till Death Do Us Part" (1962) [26] {-}
Avoided being in the one line club by releasing another song which bubbled
under.
#T1) Accents Featuring Sandi: "You Better Watch Out Boy" (1964) [133] {n/c}
Not to be confused with the Accents who also had a bubbling under song in '64
called "New Girl", which I used as a tie-breaker previously, or the Accents who
had a #51 in '58 called "Wiggle Wiggle".
#T2) Antell, Peter: "The Times They Are A-Changing" (1965) [135] {-}
Replaced his other Whitburn entry which was a #100 for one week. Talk about
your 15 minutes of fame. Do you think Bob made a few cents by Pete doing this
record?
