Newsgroups: alt.rock-n-roll.oldies,rec.games.trivia Subject: Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #62 (GOLQ62) Organization: AT&T GIS, Application Development Environment - San Diego Welcome Oldies Fans to the 62nd installment of Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz. I expect this quiz to be somewhat easier than recent quizzes, but I've misjudged the difficulty of quizzes before. After the 25 regular songs, there will be 2 tie-breakers. These 2 songs will not be in the alphabetical mix with the other 25 but will be alphabetized with respect to one another. For GOLQ62, the tie-breakers are songs that were released during 1955-1969 but didn't hit the Top 100 on the Pop charts. There have been no changes to the general rules. Answers must be received by 5:00 PM PDT on Tuesday, August 2, 1994. Try to e-mail early since I don't know how long it takes to get here. E-mail (DO NOT post) answers to: rick.schubert@sandiegoCA.ncr.com If that doesn't work, you might want to try rns@npg-sd.sandiegoCA.ncr.com I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE VIA EMAIL RECEIPT OF ALL ENTRIES. If you don't receive an acknowledgement, I can be reached at (619)485-3778 or FAXed at (619)485-2809. Please note that I will be out of town 7/26-7/29, so entries sent 7/25 or later will probably not be acknowledged before 8/1. Have fun! _____________________________________________________________________________ Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #62 (Songs were from 1957 through 1969) Due 5:00 PM PDT, Tuesday, August 2, 1994 _____________________________________________________________________________ Drrrop the coin right into the slot You gotta hear somethin' that's really hot With the one you love you're makin' romance All day long you been wantin' to dance Feelin' the music from head to toe 'Round and 'round and 'round you go #01) Longing to tell you But afraid and shy I've let my golden chances Pass me by #02) I've heard it all a million times before "Take off your clothes, my Love, and close the door" #03) One little piggy ate a pizza (yeah) One piggy ate potato chips (yeah) But this little piggy's runnin' over your house He's gonna nibble on-a your sweet lips #04) I was bo-o-orn by the river In a little tent Oh, and just like the river I been a runnin' ever since #05) Well, it was a-hoppin' Trees was a-rockin' It was a-rockin' and a-hoppin' 'Til the leaves came a-tumblin' down #06) You can tell her I had to change my plans And cancel out the wedding day But don't mention my lonely cell Where I'm gonna pine away Until my dying day #07) In that small cafe The paarrk across the way The chillldren's carousel The chestnut, tree, the wishing wishing well #08) I can dig it, he can dig it, she can dig it We can dig it, they can dig it, you can dig it Oh, let's dig it Can you dig it, Baby? #09) When a man, loves a woman It's hard to understand That she would find more pleasure In the arms of another man #10) Someone found a way to give The rotting dead a will to live Go on and never die #11) That goes for Billy, Sherry, Bobby And Marsha and, Baby You and I #12) If your heart is in the right place, talkin' 'bout the right place Shake a hand, make a friend Now, people, listen to me, now Harmony, is the key For sisters and brothers, oh yes it is I say, harmony, is the key For sisters and brothers #13) You worry my days Yes, you torture my nights Never a dream No, those dreams never turn out right #14) Weeelll, kiss me, Baby Mmmmm, feeels good Hold me, Baby Welll, I want to love you like a lover should #15) I know you heard of the Suzie-Q I know you heard of the Chicken, too I know you heard of the Cha-Cha, too #16) Well I know he's the guy Who put tears in my eyes A thousand times or more Oh, but every time he would apologize I loved him more than before #17) (Ooooo) You mean the world to me (Ooooo) You are my destiny (Ooooo) You are my angel love (Ooooo) Sent from heaven above #18) Well, that girl and I are happy, we're as happy as can be I love her, and she likes me We're gonna stay together, just wait and see Call it love, Babe, yessiree #19) Now laughing friends deride Tears I cannot hide #20) Well, every time I kiss your-a sweet lips I can feel my heart go-a flip-flip I'm such a fool for-a your charms Take me back a-baby, uh, in your arms #21) As long as there's the two of us We'll have the world and all of its charms And when the world is through with us We'll have each other's charms #22) Sitting home alone Thinkin' about my past Wondering how I made it And how long it's gonna last #23) It's just no good anymore since you went away Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday #24) The nightingale Tells his fairy tale Of paradise where roses bloom #25) _____________________________________________________________________________ Tie-breakers: _____________________________________________________________________________ Hmmmmm Did you ever hear of a wish sandwich? They are based on earlier quiz rules by David Griboff and Valentino Herrera.) 1) PLEASE READ THESE RULES FIRST!! 2) The songs are listed in alphabetical order by artist - as it actually appeared on the original 45 record. When I don't have access to the original 45, my source is Joel Whitburn's "Top Pop Singles 1955-1990" unless I have evidence indicating that source is incorrect. Songs should be alphabetized according to the following rules, unless I've made a mistake: Names beginning with "Mc" are alphabetized as if they were spelled "Mac". Names beginning with "St." are alphabetized as if they were spelled "Saint". Artists' names that begin with a number or with a punctuation symbol will be alphabetized using the word equivalent of the number or symbol. If a song has been done by more than one artist who fit the criteria of this quiz, the correct response will be the one that fits alphabetically. If you don't know which one fits alphabetically because you have not identified adjoining songs, you may include multiple artists in your entry, but you will only receive credit if you include the one that fits alphabetically. If a lead singer's name is used as part of the artist's name, the following alphabetization rules apply: - If the last name is used as in "Firstname Lastname & the Group" it will be alphabetized under Lastname. - If the last name is used as in "the Group featuring Firstname Lastname" it will be alphabetized under Group. - If the last name is not used as in "Firstname & the Group" it will be alphabetized under Firstname. - If no last name is used, but a nickname is used before the firstname as in "Nickname Firstname & the Group" is alphabetized under Nickname. For example: Artist Alphabetized by "The Crickets featuring Buddy Holly" "Crickets" "Buddy Holly & the Crickets" "Holly" "Little Anthony & the Imperials" "Little" "Little Richard" "Little" "Little Peggy March" "March" "Martha & the Vandellas" "Martha" 3) Artists may be repeated from previous Golden Oldies quizzes. An artist will not be used more than once in any given quiz. 4) Songs will not be repeated from previous Golden Oldies quizzes, whether by the same artist or by a different artist. However, a different song with the same title may be used. 5) Songs WILL BE from 1955-1969 only, of course!! Re 1955: a record may have entered the charts in 1954 as long as it was still on the charts in 1955. Re 1969: a record entering the charts in 1969 may still be on the charts in 1970. And a song that entered the charts in 1970 or later should not be called an "oldie," despite the disturbing trend of so-called "oldies stations." By the way, the previous sentence and and the remainder of this paragraph were added to the General Rules in spite of my statement that "There have been no changes to the general rules." I did this primarily to see if anyone really reads these rules; this is not really a rule change but is a change to the text of the "General Rules." I considered offering a bonus point to anyone who pointed out this change, but to do so would change the General Rules, and I didn't want to make an actual change to the rules. 6) Songs are singles that hit the Top 100 on the American Pop Charts. Although most songs will have made the top twenty-five or so, expect a couple of songs in the quiz that will challenge the experts out there. 7) There are 25 songs to identify; each song is worth 20 points. Each Title is worth 10 points; each Artist is worth 10 points. A perfect score is 500 points. You should try to get as close as possible to the way it appears on the label; partial credit will be given for imperfect answers. 8) Append your answers to the lines that begin "#dd)", where "dd" are two digits. You may delete the original lyrics or not; I will look for lines beginning with those 4 characters (possibly preceded by ">" and/or " "). _____________________________________________________________________________ -- Rick Schubert (rick.schubert@SanDiegoCA.NCR.COM)
