From: "Barry C. Silk" Newsgroups: alt.rock-n-roll.oldies,rec.games.trivia Subject: GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #85 (part 1/2) Date: 21 Nov 1995 23:53:07 GMT Organization: Capital Area Internet Service info@cais.com 703-448-4470 Message-ID: <48top4$ra4@news.cais.com> Hi Oldies Fans, This quiz contains a major theme that I think you will find enjoyable. Since it is not all that obvious, here's a hint: all songs are not only ordered by artist (as required), but the song titles are also ordered (not necessarily alphabetical order). If you can figure out this order (and consequently the theme) it may help you identify the 'harder' songs. Let me know if you can identify the theme(s). ************************************** ** IMPORTANT ** NEW RULES IN EFFECT ** ************************************** New rules are now in effect! Although the rules won't impact the way the quiz is played, they do clarify many ambiguous points from the old rule set. The rules contain three major points of interest to regular GOLQ players: - Song Recycling: Although recycling of songs used in previous GOLQs is now legal (see section 7 of the rules for details on used-song eligibility), I have chosen *not* to recycle songs on GOLQ85. - Lyrics Deletion: Entrants are now required to delete the lyrics before e-mailing answers! See section 9 of the rules. - Official GOLQ Archives: The rules now include instructions on how to access the official GOLQ archive (via ftp) which includes all quizzes and results. So, if you missed any, you now have an opportunity to catch up! See section 12 of the rules. And most importantly, please pay strict attention to rule 13! Barry (Joe and Scooter) Answers must be received by 5:00 PM ET on Tuesday, December 12, 1995. Try to e-mail early since I don't know how long it takes to get here. E-mail (DO NOT POST) answers to: barrys@cais.com I will acknowledge receipt of entries via e-mail. ________________________________________________________________________ Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #85 Songs #01-25 were from 1957 through 1969 Due 5:00 PM ET, Tuesday, December 12, 1995 ________________________________________________________________________ Well she was just seventeen You know what I mean And the way she looked was way beyond compare #01) Your lips on mine are soft as dew Your kiss is so divine Your eyes are like the skies of blue And stars that brightly shine Your voice is sweet like violins And warm like summer days #02) We're going steady so long I never dreamed you would ever do me wrong I knew I was yours and I thought you were mine And that every little thing was so fine #03) You're always in our hearts And we bless you When you're not near to us We're blue #04) It's all a part of a little game that you cook up for me Trying to find out just how much you really mean to me If that's a reason for leavin' There's no reason to explain 'Cause baby I really need you Like the roses need the rain #05) They say that all good things Must come to an end But girl it isn't true Each day with you I fall in love again #06) Wild and wind blown That's how you've grown #07) There's a little old house Where you can eat by candlelight And all the hip cats meet there every night They gotta red hot band that you can't beat And all the cornbread that you can eat #08) Oh how he dreams of his return And the comin' home he earned All his dreamin' was a waste There's a new face in his place She ain't waiting for you #09) Some letters tied in blue A photograph or two I see a rose from you #10) On my way to better things I found myself some wings Distant roads are comin' at me #11) Writing a letter To make you feel better Sorry to hear that he left you that way I could have told ya That he was much older So much older than you #12) We can't go on kissing like this I want you so When I'm with yoo-oou I know I know it's crazy but #13) When our flame of love was burning high We vowed our love would never die Seems your love for me has gone I wish I knew I hope I'm wrong #14) Don't wanna silver dollar Rabbit's foot on a string My happiness and your warm caress No rabbit's foot can bring #15) Then one night her world was changed Her life and dreams were rearranged And she would never be the same again #16) I was wrong for oh so long my hope is strong You're willing (To changing your mind) Can't you stay don't go away from me I pray You'll listen: (Don't leave me behind) Take me back well it's a fact I promise that I'm giving (What we'd even done?) #17) One time or other everybody listen to me You lose somebody you love But that's no reason for you to break down and cry #18) So I just did me some talkin' to the sun And I said I didn't like the way he got things done Sleepin' on the job #19) Girl you better hide your hea-a-art Your loving heart #20) I'm a toy soldier wounded in battle Boom boom boom boy You got me in the heart #21) When the day seems to drag along And all that I do is working out wrong Still I find that I never cry As long as I know that you're standing by And all I've got to do is run to you #22) Oh I'm standing on your doorstep and I don't know what to do Should I ring your doorbell or just walk away My friends all say that you were never true #23) For we've been told That a love like ours could never be So far apart They say we're so far apart And that we haven't the right To change our destiny #24) Sweet Hawaiian miss And no more will I roam I must have your kiss And I can't go home You stole my heart from me Pretty rose of Waikiki #25) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TIE-BREAKERS: It's a-gettin' closer Goin' faster than a roller coaster Love like yours will Surely come my way A-hey a-hey hey #T1) This is a story Of a boy and a girl Who tried to find happiness In an unfriendly world Two young lovers running away They don't care what people say They were told they were wrong for each other By her father By his mother #T2) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please answer the following questions (append your answer to the line): Name(s) = E-mail address = Age(s) [will be published if answered] = Number of people (including yourself) who contributed to your answers = ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Rules posted separately) Barry Silk barrys@cais.com
