GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #198 (GOLQ198)

Hello again, oldies fans,

Welcome to GOLQ198. Many of these songs were used on past GOLQs. There
is no particular theme to this quiz. There is a rather difficult Puzzler
at the end of the quiz. It is optional and has no effect on your score,
but give it a try.

We feel that blind searches for lyrics on the Internet are not in the
spirit of the GOLQs, and we discourage them on this quiz.

If you do not have the official GOLQ Rules (a posted copy of the rules
should follow a posted copy of this quiz on most sites), you may read
them by pointing your web browser at:

		    http://golq.shorturl.com

If you want GOLQs and their results and answers sent directly to you by
e-mail, send a message to golq-request@TheWorld.com consisting only of
the word "subscribe" in the body, not the subject, of the message.

Have fun!

Bob Bluestein and Marc Dashevsky

                    Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #198
             Recordings #01-25 were from 1955 through 1969
          Due 5:00 PM EDT (GMT - 4), Thursday, July 31, 2003
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wondering if I did right
And why you left me with a broken heart
#01)

I close my eyes
And say a prayer
That in her heart she'll find
A trace of love still there
Somewhere
#02)

Some devil told my angel a lot of lies
#03)

When an irresistible force such as you
Meets an old, immovable object like me
#04)

It's all right all night, it's all right
('tsalright, 'tsalright, 'tsalright)
It's okay all day, it's okay
('tsokay, 'tsokay, 'tsokay)
#05)

All my tiredness has gone away
Got my money and my honey
And I'm out on the stand to play
#06)

I could have a lot of women but I'm not like some of the guys
I could find one to hold me tight
But I could never make believe it's all right
#07)

You never call, baby, when you say you will
#08)

Why do you flirt and constantly hurt me?
Why do you treat our love so carelessly?
#09)

Honey, I need your love
Darling, you know why
If you would come back home
There'd be no need for me to cry
#10)

It's a doggone shame
Knowing you don't love me
You go on and use me so continuously
I don't know why I love you like I do
When you're breaking my heart
And you know it's true
#11)

Sky's getting dark above me
Baby I need your lovin'
Got to have all of your lovin'
Baby I want your lovin'
#12)

Well goodbye dear, I just can't take this chance again
My fingers are still burning from the last time
And if your love was not a game
I only have myself to blame
That's as may be, I can't explain
#13)

Now old Mr. Adam was the first man
Just a melrooney daddy with a solid plan
But then little Eve said "Hi, man"
#14)

He wanted to give her everything
Flowers, presents, but most of all a wedding ring
#15)

May they still be the same
For as long as we live
That you'll always be there
#16)

You got me rockin' and a-rollin'
Rockin' and a-reelin'
#17)

Who is the hippest that's happening all over our town
Tearing up the chicks with the message that he lays down
#18)

And they were sure surprised when Mrs. Johnson
wore her miniskirt into the room
And as she walked up to the blackboard I can still recall
the words she had to say
#19)

And they waited all around 'til the end of spring
A-gettin' every note that the birdies sing
And they put 'em all into one sweet tone
#20)

I'm gonna have to leave this place
Folks'll know you jilted me
And I'll be ashamed to show my face
#21)

I don't have happiness
And I guess
I never will ever again
#22)

Last night I dressed in tails pretended I was on the town
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down
So please don't give a thought to me I'm really doing fine
You can always find me here and having quite a time
#23)

Up in the trees so high
Way up in the sky
Sits a wide-eyed monkey on a limb
He wonders why the people
Go to so much trouble
Just a-tryin' to be like him
#24)

I hear a new girl's in the town, yeah
Now you're baby ain't nowhere around
And now you think you're in despair
You feel that still the cold light's clinging in the air
#25)

I had two gals every morning seein' that I was well fed
And believe-a you me, one sweetened my tea while another one buttered my bread
Two gals gave me my money
Two gals made me my clothes
And another sweet thing bought me a diamond ring
About forty carats, I suppose
#T1)

Oh yeah, she don't stand no foolin'
When she's hot there ain't no coolin'
#T2)

Note: Submission of an entry for this section is optional. Your
participation or performance has no bearing whatsoever on your quiz
    score or ranking.

David Seville hit #1 with "Witch Doctor" in early 1958. Then he
teamed up with The Chipmunks later that year to top the charts with
"The Chipmunk Song." But what was that frolicsome rodent trio doing
earlier in '58? Well, a supposedly female group suspiciously named
"The Three Playmates" charted with their only single, "Sugah Wooga"
in March. Coincidence? I think not!!

Okay, you didn't buy that. But the hidden answer to the following
puzzle is such a trustworthy, frequently corroborated statement
that IT MUST BE TRUE! ...

Your task is to solve the 40 clues below and place their answers
(each of which is one or more words) appropriately - one letter per
square - in the diagram. Clue answers are linked in the given clue
order head-to-tail in the diagram, i.e., the square holding the last
letter of any clue answer is the square holding the first (same)
letter of the next clue answer; asterisks mark the 40 squares where
the answers link up. The upper left square is where the chain both
begins and ends. (Many other squares in the diagram are also used
by more than one answer.) Every answer's letters must be entered
in a straight line in any of 8 directions - heading to the north,
south, east, west, northeast, southeast, northwest, or southwest.
To help give you some "direction," four of the squares are already
filled in. (The diagram has been designed to be printed using a
    fixed-width font such as Courier.)

When all clue answers are correctly entered, some of the diagram's
squares will still be blank. For each blank square, mark down the
prearranged outside-the-diagram "border letter" physically closest
to it. (For example, the border letter nearest the square pre-filled
with the letter "N" is "D".) Then rearrange these associated border
letters into a word, and then again into another. If the correct
two words are chosen, they will - when placed together - uncover a
not-so-well-kept secret proving that ROCK 'N' ROLL IS NOT DEAD!!

Good luck ... you'll need it!
