GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #231 (GOLQ231)

Welcome to the Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz 231!

This is a relatively difficult quiz, made so by our desire to create a
theme. We structured the quiz so all songs shared something in common, but
then found that, due to the re-use rule, many signature songs were
ineligible and we fell short by four songs. So, all but four songs share
something in common, while the four exceptions share something with each
other, too. Once the connections are determined, the quiz should
hopefully be easier. While they have TITLES that fit the main theme, the
actual songs #14 and #15 do not fit either of the themes. Alas song #21
fits neither theme.

Please note that one of the tie-breakers was recorded between 1945 and 1969,
but it was not released until after 1970.

Enjoy!

             Due 5:00 p.m. EDT (GMT-4), Sunday, April 30, 2006
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You're a peach, you're a plum
And you're a diamond, you're a pearl
You're the best of everything
#01)

Today is all you
Can count on anyhow
For it's here and it's now
And happiness may spread
Its wings tomorrow
#02)

My toes too numb to step
Wait only for my boot heels
To be wandering
#03)

I don't know just where to start
Should I talk about the moon
Or tell her what is in my heart
#04)

You just put on your coat and hat
And walk yourself to the laundromat
And when you finish doing that
Bring in the dog and put out the cat
#05)

The janitor said
Please let me sweep the floor
So, I hummed a tune and we
Danced right through the door
#06)

If your friends desert you
Yes, when things go wrong
You can always be sure I care
When you face each dawn
And you think you can't go on
#07)

I'm-a want you
Like a ghost I'm-a gonna haunt you
#08)

I'm gonna tell her
That I love her
And that I need her
Beside my side
To be my guide
#09)

Queen Mary, she's my friend
Yes, I believe I'll go see her again
#10)

If his lips look delicious
And you feel ambitious
Give him the number of your phone
#11)

Get away, run away
Stay away from that man
'Cause he'll only hurt you
If he can
#12)

But these stupid old feet just head for your street
Like they've done so many times before
And the stubborn old fists on the end of my wrists
Start knocking on your front door
#13)

I really love you
You really need to love me too
So, darling, believe in me
For my love, you know it's true
#14)

Do you feel it when we touch?
Do you feel the beating in your heart?
Do you hear it when we kiss?
Do you feel the throbbing echo start?
#15)

He can take you any place he wants
To fancy clubs and restaurants
But I can only watch you with
My nose pressed up against
The window pane
#16)

Yeah, lemme hear those hands
Come on, I can't hear you
Come on, come on
Are you ready (yeah)
Said are you ready (yeah)
Here we go
#17)

I can rub and scrub till this whole house
Is shining like a dime
Feed the baby, grease the car
And powder my face at the same time
#18)

Well, I got no job to go to
I don't work and I don't get paid
I got a bottle of wine
I'm feeling fine
And I believe I got it made
#19)

Still I wish there was something you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
#20)

Don't want a four leaf clover
Don't want an old horse shoe
#21)

I don't need a four leaf clover
Rabbit's foot or good luck charm
#22)

Do I like to dance?
Of course
Take a walk along the beach tonight?
I'd love to
But don't try to touch me
#23)

We got married in a fever
Hotter than a pepper sprout
#24)

Go away from my window
Leave at your own chosen speed
#25)

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

Huntin' on the corner in a beat-up car
Splittin' up a nickel candy bar
Talking all about how sharp they are
#T1)

One night of heaven
That's all I ever got
Eight to eleven
It ended on the dot
That's when it happened
The very thing I feared
I closed my eyes once
And then you disappeared
#T2)
