GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #461 (GOLQ461)

Welcome to the June edition! Roughly half of the songs honor musicians
who passed away this year.

A fine BBP (why, that's a Bob Bluestein Puzzler, of course!) may be found
below the quiz.

Enjoy!

                       Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #461
               Recordings #01-25 were from 1955 through 1969
Due 5:00 PM EDT (GMT-4) on Monday, Jun. 30, 2025
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the help, that night, with Daddy G
He was swingin' on the sax with the Terrible Two
And I was dancin' all over the room
#01)

He's got a big convertible that's fire-engine red
Howlin' and a-prowlin', never goes to bed
He's really Mister Big to all the kids in school
#02)

Well, one day my mother called me to her side
Son, why are you so blue?
Mother, I've lost the girl that I love
Why don't you tell me what to do?
Mother, won't you tell me what to do
#03)

I walk along
I sing a song
#04)

If you think her love is stronger
Don't you hang around much longer
Stop a while, take your time, and get yourself to my place
#05)

I kissed you, dear
And told you I'd be yours throughout the years
Now Father Time has proven we were right
#06)

Love you so
Bring my baby
Oh, my baby back to me
#07)

I'll send away all my false pride
And I'll forsake all of my lies
Yes, I'll be as true as true can be
#08)

Everything that I say and do
I do and say it, baby, just for you
#09)

Be wise, be smart
Behave, my heart
Don't upset your cart
#10)

When you stare into her pretty blue eyes (into her eyes)
There's no way to see through her disguise (through her disguise)
But don't try to love her
'Cause you'll quickly discover
You're trapped in the web of her lies
#11)

The key's in the mailbox
The same as before
But no one is waiting
For me anymore
#12)

Lose her?
No, I didn't lose her
'Cause I never really had her from the start
#13)

You won't do your sister's will
#14)

Well, my hands ain't smooth
My face is rough
But my heart is warm
And my ways ain't tough
#15)

Runnin' all around
That's how it is, girl (that's how it is)
'Til it comes ('til it comes)
#16)

I'd climb a mountain
Or sail the sea
I'd crawl a thousand miles
Upon my knees
#17)

I was in the dark, but now I see
What was always in front of me
I was always proud, but now I'm sayin' it loud
Keep on givin' it to me
#18)

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall
#19)

Oh, I know it's true
There's no one, dear, but you
#20)

Now I lay me down to sleep
Givin' the bedbugs a chance to creep
If one should bite before I wake
Hope the world his jaw will break
#21)

You ask me why, why I love her
(Woh-woh, dum-de-lah-dee, dum-de-lah-dee-doh)
I'll tell you why, why I love her
(Woh-woh, dum-de-lah-dee, dum-de-lah-dee-doh)
#22)

Although it's plain that we're through
My stubborn heart keeps on loving you
I miss your love so badly, it's a crime
#23)

I run after you
Like a fool would do
But Mama didn't raise no fools
And I should know
#24)

She did not even tell me the reason why she was gone
She did not, did not even, did not even tell me
Tell me why she was gone
#25)

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

You have love
I have none
Share with me
And have some fun
#T1)

There's one thing you gotta do
To make me still want you
#T2)

Submission of an entry for this section is optional. Your participation
or performance has no bearing whatsoever on your quiz score or ranking.
Please note that the diagram below has been designed to be printed using
a fixed-width font such as Courier. Copying and pasting the diagram into
its own document may prove useful in getting it to fit on a single printed
page.

The following 10 x 10 letter square contains the one-word answers (except
for two two-word answers with the spaces omitted) to clues below. They may
appear going up, down, right, left, or in any of the 4 diagonal directions.
For example, if "TRUE" were a clue answer (which it's not), then it could
be found starting in the next-to-last letter of the third row and heading
southwest. For all of A through Z, the answer to that clue contains that
letter, i.e., the answer to Clue A contains an "A", etc.

Once you find a clue answer in the square, your task is to cross it out
there. Some letters in the square will be crossed out as part of more than
one clue answer. When all 26 clue answers have been crossed out, the ten
remaining uncrossed letters will spell out, top to bottom, the name of a
'60s garage rock band from Boston. This band appeared on the TV show
"Hullabaloo", had regional hits on Epic Records, and was one of the opening
acts on The Beatles' '66 U.S. Tour, but broke up shortly thereafter.

Furthermore, when rearranged properly, the square's uncrossed letters will
also spell out each of three phrases regarding the members of the vocal
group The Essex:

1) Another group to which they belonged
2) What Billy Hill, Rudolph Johnson, Anita Humes, Rodney Taylor, and
   Walter Vickers were
3) What they would have done if they'd re-titled "Easier Said Than Done"
as "Harder Done Than Said" and "A Walkin' Miracle" as "An Ambulatory
   Marvel"
