GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #357 (GOLQ357)

Welcome to GOLQ357! First, thanks to Howard for taking GOLQ356 when I was not
going to be able to take the time to prepare it. For this quiz, there was
originally no theme, but in order to focus on getting it done at even this
late date, I chose a mini-theme which involves more than five but fewer than
10 songs in this quiz. Also, some of the other songs have things in common
with each other but not enough to make a theme or even a mini-theme.

                       Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #357
               Recordings #01-25 were from 1955 through 1969
             Due 5:00 p.m. EDT (GMT-4), Monday, October 31, 2016
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
#01)

Then if it don't work out
Then if it don't work out
#02)

Oh woman oh woman
Don't treat me so mean
You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen
#03)

Love me always
As you've loved me
From the start
With every beat of your heart
#04)

And as they gently caressed
The lovers looked up to find
The branches of the two trees
Were intertwined
#05)

Now did you hear about Louie Miller
He disappeared babe
After drawin' out
All his hard-earned cash
#06)

Belinda was mine till the time that I found her
Holdin' Jim
Lovin' him
#07)

If something is wrong
Give me just one little sigh
If there's someone else
Please tell me
#08)

Took away our way of life
Tommy hawk and the bow and knife
#09)

When you feel lost and about to give up
'Cause your best just ain't good enough (just ain't good enough)
And you feel the world has grown cold (has grown cold)
#10)

We had a quarrel
A teenage quarrel
Now I'm as blue as I know how to be
#11)

Oh my dar-ar-arling
Dry-y your eyes
Daddy's coming ho-ome soon
#12)

Here is the main thing I want to say
I'm busy 24 hours a day
#13)

When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn
#14)

Two lovers parked on Lover's Lane
Just watchin' the stars above
They don't have to say a thing
#15)

I'll be right with you
You and I should be together
Take this love I long to give you
I'll be at your side forever
#16)

They're gangin' up on me baby
Comin' on strong
Tryin' to turn you
Against me and take you home
#17)

There's only one cure for this body of mine
And that's to have that girl that I love so fine
#18)

First time that I saw you girl
I knew that I just had to make you mine
But it's so hard to talk to you
With fellows hangin' round you all the time
#19)

I stood right still and I did the freeze
He did the stroll right up to me
Made a noise with his feet that sounded like a drum
Say you'll be here when the mornin' comes
#20)

The cotton was high
And the corn was growin' fine
But that was another place and another time
#21)

It's good to see you
I must go
I know I look a fright
Anyway my eyes are not accustomed to this light
#22)

Every time you up and hurt my feelings
I pretend it couldn't matter less
I'm just hiding all of my emotions
Behind my broken heart I guess
#23)

I'm sorry now I ever went away
Every night and day
I'm gonna stay
#24)

As a matter of opinion
I think he's tops
My opinion is
He's the cream of the crop
#25)

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

She always tells me just how nice you are
And how you kiss goodnight in your car
But maybe someday you will see
All the things I want to be
#T1)

Somebody ran off with the mayor's wife
Somebody tried to take the sheriff's* life
Somebody stole the judge's ragged old gown
#T2)

* - The recording I had in mind when I chose this song says "sheriff's" here.
It turns out that other versions that fit alphabetically say "police chief's".
