They say there are only three important anniversaries or birthdays in life: 33 1/3, 45 and 78. This is yet another anniversary quiz, lately they seem to be a Hallmark of my quizzes. But while this is not one of those real important milestones, it's a big one for me. Twenty-five years ago in March 1996, I entered my first GOLQ (#89). The rest is history. First, thanks to all the other QMs and GOLQ volunteers who have kept this quiz running all this time. These quizzes have been an endless series of gifts to me over the years. But enough. This quiz has a theme, actually relevant to the occasion, and all 27 songs can be linked to it. I tried to keep this quiz in the spirit of the quizzes from back when I started. Like most themed quizzes, there are both well-known and obscure songs. And once again, Bob Bluestein has contributed another unique and interesting puzzle for this occasion. I encourage all to give it a try. Enjoy! Your participation or performance has no bearing whatsoever on your quiz score or ranking. This puzzle contains 26 "couplets". Each couplet contains two lines. The first line contains underscore characters representing blanks to be replaced by letters which spell out a clue answer. (For multiple-word answers, between-word spaces are omitted for your inconvenience!) The second line contains the associated clue (followed by the number of letters in the clue's answer). Once you have solved all clues, your task is to rearrange the 26 couplets (keeping the line pairs intact) in alphabetical order by the first letter of their clue answers. Then, reading from top to bottom, write down in that order each letter that directly follows an asterisk. Those letters will spell out a quote, with the letters of the quote's source and his famous band interspersed. If solved properly, the quote will start with an "R" and end with an "M". In addition, the ten letters that directly follow number signs rearrange to form a related pair of words. Four letters in the clue answers have been filled in to start you off ... the rest are your problem!
