GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #433 (GOLQ433)

Welcome to GOLQ433.
It's February, the days are short, so is the month. There is no theme with this
quiz. I've included songs that I haven't been able to fit into any of the themed
quizzes. The two tie-breakers have something in common. And once again, Bob
Bluestein has contributed a puzzler for your amusement and enjoyment.
Good luck and enjoy!

                        Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #433
                 Recordings #01-25 were from 1955 through 1969
            Due 5:00 p.m. EST (GMT-5) on Tuesday, February 28, 2023
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the way she looked was way beyond compare
#01)

It's taller than the tallest tree (how soft?)
Softer than a summer breeze
All I ask you, please
Give (uh huh) your love (uh huh)
Your love (uh huh), sweet love (uh huh) to me
#02)

'Cause I took a plane, plane, plane
But there was some rain, rain, rain
And there was no flyin', flyin', flyin'
So I took a train, train, train
#03)

I'm going down to the bus station with a
Suitcase in my hand, yes I am
I'm gonna grab me a armful of Greyhound
And ride just as far as I can
#04)

Really somethin'
When the joint is jumpin'
When they do
#05)

Then came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone
#06)

Though we're apart a little while
My heart will wait until we both can smile
That wall, built of our sorrow
We know must have an end
'Til then dream of tomorrow
When we meet again
#07)

When love walked out
A fire went out inside of me
They put it out
Those tears inside of me
#08)

There, whenever you need to know
That there is someone who cares
So if your new love
Isn't the true love
Don't you worry darlin'
#09)

Call out your name
Wake up the town, you'll see
I'm gonna hoo-hoot and howl like the lovesick owl
Until you say you're gonna come out with me
#10)

Children, behave
#11)

Girl, the name of the game is love
On your mark, get set, let the kissin' start
#12)

I memori-i-ize
Every line
#13)

And if a job is hard to find
And we have to stand in the welfare line
I've got your love and you know you got mine
#14)

All across the nation, such a strange vibration
#15)

I get high, just a-thinkin' about ya
You know what they say about the bird in the hand
And that's why I ain't leaving without you
#16)

All my bags are packed
#17)

It's so hard to face reality
Knowing loneliness is my destiny
#18)

One night I was late, came home from a date
Slipped out of my shoes at the door
Then from the front room, I heard a jump tune
I looked in and here's what I saw
#19)

Up in the morning at half past eight
You can't have your breakfast 'cause you'll be late
You tie your tie like a hangman's noose
Ain't no time to drink your juice
#20)

In the jungle, the mighty jungle
#21)

But when the Cuban queen comes upon the scene
They all stare like a statue out of stone
And when they realize what's before their eyes
The other girls are left all alone
#22)

Well now she's the woman that's a-got that beat
Ah, she's the woman with the flying feet
Ah, she's the woman walks around the store
She's the woman giving more, more, more, more
#23)

You'd laugh and say 'nothing's that simple'
But you've been told many times before
Messiahs pointed to the door
No one has the guts to leave the temple
#24)

Please don't bother tryin' to find her
#25)

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

I hear that dreams come true there every day
I hear that life don't get you down
The way it gets you in this small town
I swear I'm gonna get me there some way
#T1)

Nobody can do the (Twist) like I do
Nobody can do the (Shout) like I do
Nobody can mash (the Mashed Potato) like I do
Nobody can do the (Popeye) like I do
Ah don't you know I gotta Twist I do
#T2)

PUZZLER
-------

Submission of an entry for this section is optional. Your participation
or performance has no bearing whatsoever on your quiz score or ranking.
Please note that the grid and clue answers below have been designed to
be printed using a fixed-width font such as Courier. (Copying the text
below into a word processor and editing some may help get columns lined
up properly and put each section on its own page before printing.)

                             MONEY MATTER$

This puzzle is an acrostic. It contains a grid followed by 26 clues
(labelled A to Z) whose answers' letters are used to fill the grid's
squares. Following the clues is the Clue Answers section, containing
26 lines with slots in which to put the answers' letters. Each clue's
answer consists of one or more words. Most slots have a number-letter
pair under them. If so, this indicates where its clue answer letter
should be placed in the grid. For example, "2f" indicates that that
slot's clue answer letter should go into the grid's square in the second
row, sixth column. The letter in the upper right corner of each square
indicates the clue from whose answer that square is filled. Note that
spacing between letters and words in the answer lines is irregular (for
your inconvenience!).

When completed, the grid will reveal a statement (with all spacing and
punctuation removed, for your even greater inconvenience!) answering the
following:

In "Can't Buy Me Love", The Beatles sang "I don't care too much for
money". On the other hand, in covering Barrett Strong's "Money (That's
What I Want)" (written by Janie Bradford and Berry Gordy, Jr.), they
sang "Money don't get everything, it's true / What it don't get I can't
use / Now give me money". So which is it?

columns (retaining the lines' irregular spacing) - each read either up
