GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #450 (GOLQ450)

Welcome to GOLQ450.

It's Fourth of July week and everyone else here at GOLQ World HQ has left for
vacation. Since I'm still the new guy at GOLQ, kind of like how Ron Wood is
still the new guy with the Stones, I get to be the summer-substitute
quizmaster. Hopefully, this is a relatively easy quiz.

The quiz has two very broad sub-themes, some might see more, and they cover all
27 songs. There is also another overall theme that, if solved, will be a
helpful time-saver.

And once again, Bob Bluestein has contributed a puzzler for your amusement and
enjoyment.

Good luck! And enjoy the holiday and summer!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A bushy, bushy, blond hair-do
#01)

Did I miss the skyscrapers, did I miss the long freeway?
From the coast of California to the shores of the Delaware Bay
You can bet your life I did
#02)

America is still the best country
Without a doubt
And if anybody says it ain't, you just try to put him out
They ain't going nowhere, you got a good fight
#03)

Paranoia strikes deep
#04)

Just fill your basket full of sandwiches and weenies
#05)

They Shimmy in Charlotte
They Shake in Baltimore
In Detroit, in Dallas
And down Miami shore
So baby, oh baby
What are what we waitin' for
#06)

Like a sailboat ride (yeah, yeah)
What about the night we cried
#07)

From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel
You can almost taste the hot dogs and french fries they sell
#08)

Yeah, we'll hop in a jalopy to a drive-in movie and never look at the show
We're gonna hug and kiss, just like this
And I can't wait to go, go, go
#09)

A place where even squares can have a ball
We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse
And white lightnin's still the biggest thrill of all
#10)

Born on a mountain-top in Tennessee
#11)

Sherman's been in my town
Burned it all to the ground
Now there's not a tree
'Tween Memphis and the sea
#12)

We've survived a hard blow and I want you to know
That you'll place us at last
And I know you will give consideration
Shall we perish unjust or live equal as a nation
#13)

Can a kid without a cent
Get a break and maybe grow up to be President
#14)

Caught up in a summer shower
Dryin' while it soaks the flowers
Maybe we'll be caught for hours
Waitin' out the sun
#15)

Cops out with the megaphones
Telling people stay inside their home
Man, can't they see the world's on fire
Somebody take us away, take us away
#16)

Summer's here and the time is right
#17)

As I went walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me, the endless skyway
I saw below me, the golden valley
#18)

But then one day my Uncle Sam, he said
"Here I am
Uncle Sam needs you, boy
I'm-a gonna cut your hair off
Ah, take this rifle, kid
Gimme that guitar"
#19)

As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
#20)

There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same
#21)

Small town girls and soft summer nights
We'd hide from the lights
On the village green
#22)

Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana
Washington, Houston, Kingston, Texarkana
Monterey, Ferriday, Santa Fe, Tallapoosa
Glen Rock, Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa
Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee, Spirit Lake
Grand Lake, Devil's Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake
#23)

We got a land and the land is free
And no one loves it more than me
But a man's got a right to talk about
What's on his mind
That doesn't necessarily mean he's
#24)

There's a redskin waitin' out there, he's fixin' to take my hair
#25)

------------
Tie-Breakers
------------

I can remember the Fourth of July
A-runnin' through the backwood bay
And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin'
Chasin' down a hoodoo there
#T1)

July, she will fly
And give no warning to her flight
August, die she must
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold
September, I'll remember

This puzzle is an acrostic. It contains a grid followed by 23 (hopefully)
puzzling clues (A to W) whose one-word answers' letters are used to fill
the grid's boxes. Following the clues is the Clue Answers section, which
contains 23 lines with slots in which to put the answers' letters. The
number under a slot indicates where its letter should be placed in the grid.

That concludes your introduction to this Puzzler.

Now here is your introduction to another puzzler!:
