Sitting here, trying to think of a theme. On this particular day, it's Amazon's big sale, there's this football coach on TV, an interest rate is in the news. Suddenly the math nerd in me wonders, just how many PRIME numbers are there between 1 and 100. The number turns out to be exactly 25. You see where this is going. You can easily find these numbers on the Internet. This quiz matches Prime numbers to songs with the same Peak Position. However, using all 25 Prime numbers results in too many obscure songs for GOLQ standards. So adjustments are made. And since this is a music quiz first, I'll give some hints. 1. The first 5 Prime numbers (2,3,5,7,11) have two songs each. 2. The 5 Prime numbers between and including 53-71 have no songs. 3. The other 15 Prime numbers have one song each. 4. A sub-theme connects the ten songs with PP 31 and higher. This should make them easier to identify. 5. The tie-breakers will use the next two Prime numbers, 101 and 103, from the Bubbling Under charts. Once again, Bob Bluestein has contributed a puzzler for your amusement and enjoyment. Good luck and enjoy! And Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas! Your participation or performance has no bearing whatsoever on your quiz score or ranking. Please note that the diagram below has been designed to be printed using a fixed-width font such as Courier. Copying and pasting the diagram into its own document may prove useful in getting it to fit on a single printed page. The large square below represents a compilation CD of 16 golden oldies on the Billboard pop charts from '55 through '69. Their titles are labelled a) through p). Your task is to determine these 16 song titles. Below the CD are clues A) to P) whose one-or-more-word answers' letters are used to fill in the song titles. Following the clues is the Clue Answers section, which contains lines with slots in which to put the answers' letters. The answers should be entered one word per line, ignoring the irregular spacing between letters. The letter and number under a slot indicate where that slot's answer letter should be placed in the CD. For example, "a4" below a slot would mean that the answer letter filling that slot should also go into the 4th slot (ignoring spaces) of song title a). On the CD, the letter under each slot indicates which clue's answer that song title's letter comes from. ___________________________________________________________________ | | | | | | | HIPPO RECORDS PRESENTS | | | | GOLDEN OLDIES '55-'69 - Vol. 1 | | | | | | a) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ i) __ __ __ __ __ __ | | I O L E B N D G L H I D J O H C | | | | b) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ j) __ __ __ __ | | L L B J F N I E G M H O P | | | | c) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ k) __ __ __ __ | | C J L K D P J G J B M | | | | d) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ l) __ __ __ __ __ | | M F L B H I N L D P K F | | | | e) __ __ __ m) __ __ __ __ __ | | I D G L C D J G | | | | f) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ n) __ __ __ __ __ | | G B L F E N B M J L G F M L I | | | | g) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ o) __ __ __ __ __ __ | | C M P B L E J H K M C A O I | | | | h) __ __ __ __ __ __ p) __ __ __ __ | | N I J D G A A N M L | | | Featured artists: The Beatles, Pat Boone, The Cookies, Vic Damone, | | The Everly Brothers, The 4 Seasons, Gerry and the Pacemakers, | | Herman's Hermits, Etta James, Kalin Twins, Johnny Mathis, Oliver, | | Peter and Gordon, Tommy Roe, Three Dog Night, and Bobby Vee | | | Copyright 1999 Hippo Records | | | | "If it ain't Hippo, it ain't hip!" | |___________________________________________________________________________| The CD's 16 golden oldies share a particular characteristic in addition to being top 100 '55-'69 singles.
